The Washington Post RetweetedIs Amazon actually a good place to go shopping?
In my
@washingtonpost
column, I argue its gotten demonstrably worse. Everything on Amazon is becoming an ad.

Most of what you see at first on Amazon is now an ad.

(19,222 posts)I've noticed them, sure. A few flicks on the scroll wheel and I'm past. Sometimes I even see an ad for pretty much what I'm looking for, anyway.
With so much else to get upset about, I just never thought that scrolling past a few ads should ruin my whole day.

(64,637 posts)Does anybody really think that recent politics has been because we are "polarized?"
Nope. The ad industry has made literally billions upon billions of dollars off of politics, and it's not declining, it's getting worse.
It's all about the bucks, maybe, but more importantly it's about where the bucks are going. Sure, it's going to media and the politicians. But mostly it's going to the ad agencies, making and selling commercials.

(32,599 posts)Usually, the amount of mail drops off after the election, but I'm still getting 75-100 a day from various political groups. It's starting to really piss me off.

Ordered some trail shoes and water shoes today, be here Monday, I'm good with that, 50% off!

(63,103 posts)Yes, I did see a lot of ads for sponsored products, but I just scrolled down past those.
Total shopping time probably under half an hour. No crowded stores and parking lots to have to deal with. And I got some Black Friday deals, too, though not on all of them.
Prime delivery won't be only two days as usual, or only one day as sometimes happens, but I should have three of the items Tuesday and one on Wednesday.
Seems pretty good to me. I'm waiting for a delivery of three items now, items ordered early this week, with another one coming tomorrow, also from Amazon.
Total shopping time for all 8 items was probably under an hour. Though a few were items I'd bought before, and some were items I'd done some thinking about months ago.
I'm pretty happy with Amazon.

(58,785 posts)a problem, though I do routinely compare prices -- for cause. Today I skipped Amazon to order from Walmart an inexpensive sleep set to just pick up for my post-op husband.
Unfortunately, it presumably turned into a really boring Black Friday Christmas present between the time I ordered and came by to pick it up with the rest of our order. So now it's coming from Amazon, in a couple days to our door.
Of course these days there were also hundreds of other places to order it from as well.

Maybe I'm just looking for good in the world but this give me a tad bit of hope. Could you imagine Eloon bad mouthing tesla on Twitter? No just the opposite.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
