The threat to our democracy is not over.

In fact, the threat may be stronger now than before the last election?

Trump has once again announced that he is going to run for the presidency. He is more desperate than ever to keep himself out of jail and to fight the numerous court battles now on the horizon. Once again, he is cozying up to the white nationalists and his most violent supporters. If possible, he will attempt to incite them to violence, as he has done before.

On the upside, there is hope that the new Special Counsel will bring charges against the criminal ex-president, but it is not a given. If he is not required to answer for what he has done to our country, the threat to our democracy will become much more pronounced. Elections will not save us from the fascists. Only accountability will protect our demcracy.

...I doubt that he will ever have the cult following of Trump. That is a huge difference between the two.

Also, if Trump is not made to pay for what he has done, I fear our standing in the world will take a terrible hit and the American experiment will become a sad joke.

5. Make no mistake, indictments are coming.

The Georgia investigation should come to end in a few weeks. Indictments should follow. The Georgia investigation is the longest running investigation, almost two years.

The secret document investigation should not take to much longer. Trumps delay tactics are coming to an end. The courts have ruled against him. Indictments could come early next year. This is not a complicated case when it comes to Obstruction of Justice, mishandling of top secret documents.

The J6 investigation could take a little longer because it is the largest investigation in our history. Scores of people were involved in the attempted coup, conspiracy. That case has to be done right.

So the crisis is hardly finished. I just have to wonder why rich people like the Kochs support the anti-democracy, fascist agenda. Do they think their lives will be better under a USA dictatorship? Do they believe the good people in the USA will roll over and surrender the freedoms we fought for? Do they believe their crimes will go unpunished?

was counter productive to our country. The notoriety and a few months in prison did nothing to slow their roll. They are criminals and want to end this country for their white national state.

They should have been given 20 years each. Old or young, they attacked our country, this wasn't a lesson to learn from, it was a lock them up moment. It would show the world if you attack us, we will see you in 20 years, after you've had time to figure out what went wrong in your thought processes.

11. The bigger problem

Is that after Trump, the GOP will still be filled with people who don’t think America and democracy are inextricably joined. Their version of America doesn’t necessarily include self rule. They think America would still be great without this pesky voting that makes our leaders have to answer to the public.

12. Trump got millions more votes on his second run for the Presidency than his first.

Even though the whole country was witness to his cluster- f**k of an Administration.

And, despite the prevailing narrative, the Republicans did gain ground in the 2022 election. They took the House and the Senate (so far) is still the same. Maybe they did not do as well as we had feared, but they still gained significant power. The widely reported "exodus" of mainstream Republican voters did not happen. Republican turn-out was strong.

I don't think we are anywhere near out of the woods yet.
