The right wing media has groomed people for years to become hateful spiteful people to dislike the things they actually are.

The real groomers are Fox, right wing radio and faux Christian pastors not teachers or gay people.

It is all some of them ever say, everywhere they go. They just complain everything is too "woke."

I was watching someone play a newly revamped version of Oregon Trail on YouTube and someone entered the chat and said they heard the new version was too woke.

The guy that owned the channel deleted the person's comment from the chat and told them to change their username, because it was inappropriate, along with their comment. That was all the person said in chat too. I never did see what the username was, but they went into that chat just to complain about the new version of the game being "woke." They are obsessed.

They sound like broken records with how much they use that word. Everything to them is "woke."

When you're asleep, you dream. When you dream, all kinds of stupid stuff seems to make sense. When you wake (or become woke), you recognize the dream stuff as nonsense and you look around with intelligent eyes and start to wonder WTF is going on here.

and sexism are so baked in to every atom of our culture that we are unaware of it till we wake to it. And once we wake to it we realize it is everywhere and in everything.

And once THAT happens, our whole outlook in the world changes.

in any area of human life. Can relate to racism, sexism, xenophobia or just mere stupidity (lack of knowledge of science, history, etc.).

Therefore, becoming woke is a lifelong process.

Republican adulteration of our language is another example of their love of fascism.

15. Immigration and asylum positions are another example.

For starters, migrants and asylum seekers are not distinct in their eyes. All we get from them is "cross border bad." Our empathy moves us to at least guess why individuals or families would walk to another country exposed to the elements knowing that law enforcement is waiting and deportation back is likely. For the right, the end of border crossings by itself equals "problem solved", giving no thought to the problems of the crossers going unsolved.

Empathy opens the way to understanding the true complexity of the issue, trying to be humane to migrants and asylum seekers within the framework of existing laws and the tougher problem of moving the source countries to alleviate the conditions that precipitated the migration.

Being woke is acknowledging history and working to undo past harm by listening to and letting those who have traditionally been marginalized lead transformative social movements. Think of it like this: a person can have compassion that their LGBTQ child is struggling and still think the answer is conversion therapy.

"woke" with empathy.

Just to point out, it doesn't mean empathy to those who are not white. It means to be aware of one's own history and culture and how we got where we are today. But the term switches meaning when you're a different culture.

Isn't language funny that way?

It’s going to backfire on them. Already has started to.
