Standard security lines were running up to 70 minutes. Why everyone doesn't sign up for PreCheck or CLEAR is beyond me.

(94,520 posts)I have GLOBAL ENTRY which comes with PRECHECK. $100 for five years. I just don't understand why people put up with crowds and delays when travel alternatives exist.

(12,650 posts)They travel for a wedding, a funeral, a new job or college, for specialist visit, to move back home, or for that one family vacation trip they saved for years, and that's pretty much it.
If you travel for business, the fast check is the way to go. But if you're only going to fly, say 10 times in your lifetime, you're not going to put out another $100 on the off chance all those 10 trips will be within that five year period.

(23,313 posts)because they have to. You should seriously delete this thread. $100 for a lot of folks is a whole lot of dough and you werent inconvenienced at all today so why all of this? If you feel so strongly, maybe you could offer to purchase pre-check for people on DU who would benefit?

(1,827 posts)But my global entry privilege necessitated an in person interview in a city 100 miles from my home. That is definitely a show stopper in and of itself for many. We have to add in the actual interview that could be very uncomfortable for so many. When we enter the Homeland Security office we call a family member to let them know where we are and that we will call them when we come out. The Patriot Act and other laws against the people allow HS to hold anyone without having to divulge that they have you in custody. At one interview the officer asked for my SS# again but not that of my partner who was there to renew as well. During the interview I asked the officer why they had done that. He responded that there was someone with a name very similar to mine with a warrant out for their arrest. You just never know what they are going to dig up.

(23,313 posts)we would have yet another set of travel problems. Good grief. Seriously? I cannot even believe you would come here with this. Maybe direct your affluent anger at the TSA. And yes, I have pre-check so feel free to move move on.

(13,493 posts)why you didn't just fly on a Net Jet and avoid the crowded terminal all together.
(Seriously, as someone who signed up for Clear on a whim, it's $180 a year. I take between 10-20 flights a year, so it's worth it to me. But it is an indulgence and not affordable to a lot of people. Or not worth it to people who only take one big trip a year.)
TSA should be more efficient. Having people pay for Global Entry or Clear is just another way to make money on the travel industry.
