Police had to seal off parts of the center of Brussels, deploy water cannons and fire tear gas to disperse crowds following violence during and after Moroccos 2-0 upset win over Belgium at the World Cup.

(54,448 posts)His sister has a Moroccan boyfriend, and he warned before the match that the Moroccans (huge minority in the Brussels area) would tear up the city if they lost OR if they won. Only if there was a tie did the city have half a chance of surviving without a riot. Well, there was no tie, and there WAS a riot.
the minority population is being blamed for the riots? Not the white people of belgium?

(54,448 posts)The prediction I cited was made by one single Moroccan, not the news or a politician, or even a Belgian, and it was made before the game. He turned out to be correct. No more, no less. One Moroccan--not the media, not the parliament, and he wasn't assigning blame. He just made a prediction. If you want to put words in his mouth, I'd be happy to try to get his name and phone number for you.
The OP provided film coverage, for what that's worth. The Belgian flag and the Moroccan flag are not similar, but that is about as distinguishing as I could see.

(9,087 posts)My neighbor went ballistic after a Super Bowl game. He screamed his head off and banged around his apartment while his friends were over. When I saw him the next day he apologized. I didn't have to say a word when he did that. At least he was situationally aware. He still whoops and yells but it's never gotten as out of hand as it did that one time.
When it leads to violence, it tells me these are the people who do not have coping skills and need therapy. Lots and lots of therapy.

(3,557 posts)I never understood that. Youre angry about a phone call, so you smash your phone. Now youve got two things to be angry about - your phone call and the phone you just broke.
My ex wife turned violent like that. Not only would she smash up things around the house, but she destroyed the relationships with those she presumably wanted to maintain relationships with.

(9,087 posts)setting other peoples stuff on fire. You make a good point about being mad once then again because of ones own action/reaction.
I'm sorry you had to go through that.
