Musk's problem with the Twitter acquisition is that he doesn't have a core set of employees that embrace his "vision" of where he wants to take the platform. This is a fundamentally different situation from either Tesla or SpaceX, where the original employees shared and identified with the concepts of electric cars and cheaper access to space.

7. The problem is we'll still be left with a raidicalized right wing crazy with several billion dollars

to spend and a huge grievance chip on his shoulder as big as Donald Trump's. Musk can lose 90% of his wealth, then donate a billion plus to right wing politics, and still be left with billions of dollars to fuck around with. Musk is narcissistic enough that revenge could become his driving ambition, and the extent that he could influence politics by funneling billions of dollars to those he still approves of can be devastating.

But on the Kara Swisher (real smart woman finance writer) podcast, there was the suggestion that Musk might be trying to drive the value of the debt down so low that he can pay it all off at 20 cents on the dollar or something, and end up owning the company (much damaged) for $5 billion or so.

I don't know. To me, it seems very much like narcissism and money and fame and fanboyworship all congealing into a toxic testosterone explosion-- same thing's happening to Kanye. And of course, Trump's evaded the explosion all this time. But they're all spiralling into more and more extreme uselessly rebellious behavior, and as always, it devolves into sexism, racism, and anti-semitism, because of course.

But as Elon fanboys keep telling us, he's "the smartest guy in the world," so maybe he even does have some plan. I think actually he's not that smart, but what do I know.
