(49,286 posts)I think she was an underrated member of the group. I never heard if she liked having a lower profile or if it bothered her.

(18,359 posts)Buckingham and Nicks got most of the songwriting cuts on the albums, but the stuff she did was quality and so different than Nicks' songs. She also sang lead with a beautiful voice and harmonized with the others well. You also had her keyboard work.
A vital piece of Fleetwood Mac and a transition from the blues band to the California band they became with the addition of Buckingham and Nicks.

So, sad. I adore Stevie Nicks, but Christine McVie had an incredible voice and such a nice presence in the band.

(102,780 posts)I was just telling someone about her at Thanksgiving. They didn't know much about the band before B&N showed up. I liked the band prior to that, after, not so much. Was okay with B but not N.
Anyway, she was sadly understated. A solid musician and was an influence for me of sorts.

She was so talented and versatile, as a singer/songwriter/musician. Stevie Nicks was flashier, but Christine McVie had the biggest talent.

Im really glad. Cuz Ive been in situations where I was one of two girls in the group - in this case a newly assembled team of FM anchors for a news network aimed at rock stations. Id never had a chance to work with the other woman. She and I were always on competing radio stations in the same market. I felt no hostility or jealousy or resent my toward her. For Petes sake, WHY???
I assumed we were on friendly terms. But she evidently harbored resentment toward me. It later came to full flower when we were both hired for this new young adult network. She immediately hated me! And what did I ever do to her? Besides exist? And, I suppose, get in her way, even though we had different shifts and I never wanted to be in ANYBODYS way in the first place! Certainly never tried to get in anybodys way.
When I was still working I learned a boatload about the downside of being successful. The higher you climb, the more people there are at levels below you, resenting what you achieved and presuming that the job you worked so hard to earn should be theirs instead. And theyd wind up shooting at you (figuratively speaking) to get you out of their way.

(2,735 posts)which was pretty good most of the time. My wife had "The Legendary Christine Perfect" album - Christine McVie's solo album before she joined Fleetwood Mac. My early Fleetwood Mac albums were stolen. I'm listening to Rumours right now and reminiscing.

(1,492 posts)I don't know if she's gotten her due. While she doesn't have the catalogue of Paul McCartney, she had the same gift for writing wonderful melodies and songs you find yourself singing along with. The re-popularity of "Everywhere" is an indication of how timeless her songs are and will always be. She was a great artist.
