Michigan GOP continues to crash and burn

(Detroit Free Press) The battle to serve as the next leader of the Michigan Republican Party now includes unsuccessful GOP secretary of state candidate Kristina Karamo, who announced late Tuesday her bid to become party chair following brutal losses for Republicans in the midterm election.

Her campaign pits her against former GOP attorney general candidate Matt DePerno, another losing candidate backed by former President Donald Trump who rose to national prominence in 2020 for fighting the results of that year's presidential election. At the same time, a former longtime Republican elected official with his own Trump ties is also considering jumping into the race.

Republican delegates in Michigan will decide the new chair of their party at a convention early next year. Michigan GOP Chairman Ron Weiser is not seeking reelection while Michigan GOP Co-chair Meshawn Maddock's future plans remain unclear.

The contest over who will lead the party follows major defeats in Michigan during the most recent midterm: Democratic incumbents handily defeated Republican candidates vying for top statewide offices, and Democrats won control of the state Legislature for the first time since the 1980s. ...............(more)

They had already devolved to the point where they promoted and elected and defended that turd. THEY raised that banner.

Remember the GOP declined to state a party platform in 2020. They basically said trump, trump, and more trump.

trump fit the suit.

We have re-elected a strong female governor for a second term whose lieutenant governor is the first black man to serve that post in state history.

We have re-elected a strong woman as SOS by a landslide who will be a strong candidate to replace Whitmer in 2026.

We have re-elected a gay woman as our attorney general.

We have enshrined abortion rights into our state constitution by a landslide vote.

We have enshrined ease of voting into our constitution by a landslide.

We have maintained a 4-3 advantage in our state Supreme Court.

Whitmer named the first black woman to sit on the Michigan Supreme Court.

The Michigan Supreme Court voted unanimously to name a woman the first female chief justice in state history.

The state House flipped to Blue for the first time in 14 years.

The democrats in the state House elected the first black man to serve as speaker of the house.

The State Senate flipped to blue for the first time in 40 years.

Both US Senators from Michigan are democrats.

Grand Rapids elected a strong woman to be our first democrat US House rep in 50 years, flipping the seat from red to blue.

And in 2016, Trump won this state, we had all 3 state executive posts in red hands. We had both houses of the state with Republican near super majorities. And the US house delegation was 8-6 Republican.

Great summary and I'm so glad I live in this state. We can no longer say we're "purple". We are now a BLUE state.

I still maintain Trump didn't really win this state - that there were GOP/Russian shenanigans.
