For the first time in over a century, Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat carried the four big west Michigan counties (Kent, Allegan, Ottawa and Muskegon) combined. Republicans need to watch out for falling out in this populated area home to 1.25 million michiganders.

Republicans were lying to themselves before the Summer that she was vulnerable. Gretchen Whitmer has always had positive approval ratings and she’s seen as a no nonsense leader who is willing to work with the other side. She got a ton done for Michigan by working with the GOP controlled House and Senate in Lansing.

She’s a rising star. And it’s no surprise she did better with more rural voters than most Dems have done here. Whitmer is out there visiting all of our communities and making good things happen. She’s going to be an asset for the national Democratic Party going forward.

And we're talking huge margins of victory for Dems in the supposedly competitive races in our state.

Whitmer won by 10.6%.
AG Dana Nessell won by 8 points
Secretary of State Benson won by 14 points.

The 3rd US Congressional District here in Grand Rapids was a Republican held seat, Trump came here and campaigned for Republican John Gibbs several times, The GOP poured money into this race. A true progressive, Hillary Scholten, won by 13 points.

The ballot proposals were huge and both sides spent a ton, they passed by 32, 20 and 14 points.

This wasn't a case of Dems eking out several wins, this was a case of Dems blowing Republicans out in what were supposed to be the neck and neck races. Michigan's 7th US House district was supposed to be a dead heat, with maybe a lean to the GOP, Democrat Slotkin won it by 5.4 points.

Deep red Macomb County went for Trump by over 8 points in 2020, the Republican won that Congressional district by the skin of his teeth, less than half a point.

There's no mistaking what happened in Michigan, it was a massive blue wave.

Particularly along the lake. I expect this to trend toward Democrats over time.

Holland is known for its big pristine beaches, light house, Hope College and millionaire mansions. Yes, Republicans there were sane, even nice.

Saugatuck has galleries and studios known for its Lake Michigan beaches, award-winning wineries and breweries, and LGBTQ community.

Grand Rapids is known for the Amway DeVoses, the Prince Corporation and Blackwater. Kidding. But that's mostly what I remember when I visited it.
