Its a moment of panic that has played out again and again for people in more than a dozen states since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June.
Once they find out theyre pregnant, there isnt much time to act. The closest open abortion clinics that once offered next-day appointments are now often fully booked three, four, even five weeks in advance. Pills purchased online can take up to a month to arrive.
Every day, the fetus gets a little bigger and the anxiety builds.
In polarized, post-Roe America, the experiences that draw widespread attention are often the most harrowing: a 10-year-old rape victim forced to leave her state to end her pregnancy, or a woman denied an abortion for a fetus without a skull.
Often lost in the discussion are the more routine stories. The mother of two who cant afford a third child. The teenager who cant tell her parents shes pregnant. The 25-year-old who isnt ready to be a mom.

People could not believe what I was saying.
Now we shall see first hand what life is like under a patriarchy which devalues women.

(33,424 posts)Active needs to start an unwanted pregnancy piggy bank and double up on their birth control, if they can still get it.
Heaven help the people who are happily pregnant until something tragic happens to complicate their health and that of the fetus.
And I guess we need to start doubling down on self defense knowledge and start locking up as many creepy uncles, brothers, fathers, grandpaws, neighbors and randos we can to try and make pregnancy by rape and incest less likely but I'm not holding my breath for this.
Men need to be forced to be accountable for their pregnancies and I mean that they participate in creating. We need a law to that effect. And we need to fix whatever is wrong with the child support system in this country.
People will die. WTF is this world coming to?
I'll never understand it.

(81,175 posts)Unwanted pregnancies are a crisis now.
Wanted pregnancies with medical complications are a crisis now.
Women need to be prepared.
Yes men hare half the reproductive equation but totally off the hook.
I never thought I would see women's rights go back to the 19th century.
I understand it. Men are obviously very threatened by the progress women have made.
Time to end all of that, and get women back trapped in the home again.

(81,175 posts)Men are apparently outraged and furious that women have succeeded so well in a system designed by men for men.
And that women want to be treated with respect.
The cruelty is specifically used to terrorize a group into compliance and submission.
To stun the group, keep them off balance and docile.

Tells us the current GOP goals for women.

(4,131 posts)and start changing state laws on abortion. For now those states that don't allow abortion then girls/women must travel to other states. Hopefully there is some mechanism in place so the person wanting the abortion gets help in going to another state.

(81,175 posts)A system is needed for women so they can receive reproductive and medical care.
We now live in a country where state governments order health care providers not to treat critically ill women.
