I think there are Democrats who will vote for Cheney. Maybe a lot of them.

2) The person saying they have a "secret candidate" hates Cheney.

(62,143 posts)RW fantasies about making Trump speaker, then impeaching both Biden and Harris, so Trump would be president again without being elected.
Mz Pip
(28,454 posts)But theres no way Biden or Harris would be convicted in the Senate. No Democrat would go along with that.

(12,046 posts)And thats why I think he would be dead in the water in any GOP presidential primary. But I could definitely see his appeal to all corners of the GOP House membership as a compromise.

(12,046 posts)...granted they've made that mistake many times to date. But what happens then to the support for their new hero DeSantis?

(7,715 posts)The House Republicans are pretty wild, so anything is possible.
Someone else here mentioned Gingrich. While he's very old, he's 79, a year younger than President Biden and not much older than Trump. Moreover, he's a Trump affiliate (his wife was Trump's ambassador to the Vatican). He would be a throwback to the "good old days" of 1994 for the Rethugs, which is the direct ancestor of the horrors that they have foisted on the USA.
It will be more symbolic, but I think the Republicans are desperate to get some momentum.

(24,906 posts)If we can't get someone we could tolerate, I'd be content with someone with the best chance of destroying what's left of the republican party by putting on the biggest shit show in history. Bring on Herschel Walker as far as I'm concerned.

The speaker doesnt have to be a member and is the MAGA crowd just loves his strength. Hes a perfect monster specimen and reminds them all of how he took back the House. Hes also started showing up again.

(7,715 posts)So they will be looking for a "consensus" candidate who will be a huge thorn in the side of President Biden and the Democrats.
As someone posted below, it might be Newt Gingrich. The more I think about it, that seems possible.

(40,915 posts)All dems should vote for Lauren Boebert.
Just enough to put the pressure on the repubs.
Would the repubs select their own incompetence?
Can they only vote for someone nominated?

(34,914 posts)Supposedly, he has been seen at the Capitol over the past few days. I can't imagine he wants the job again, though. He didn't like it when he held it the first time.
