Trump's call to suspend Constitution not a 2024 deal-breaker, House Republican says

Republican Rep. Dave Joyce said Sunday that he didn't want to be drawn into commenting on Donald Trump's recent call to suspend the Constitution over baseless claims of 2020 election fraud.

Joyce, the chair of the influential Republican Governance Group in the House, was asked by ABC "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos to respond to Trump's post on Saturday on his Truth Social platform.

Joyce initially declined to do so, saying the public wasn't "interested in looking backwards." But Stephanopoulos followed up and Joyce ultimately said that Trump's comment shouldn't be taken seriously but that it wouldn't lead him to pull potential support for Trump's 2024 comeback bid.

"I will support whoever the Republican nominee is," Joyce said while noting he didn't think Trump would manage to win the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Speaking about President Trump’s and his legal team’s myriad and baseless claims of massive voter fraud, an anonymous senior Republican official offered a rhetorical shrug.

“What is the downside for humoring him for this little bit of time? No one seriously thinks the results will change,” the official said. “He went golfing this weekend. It’s not like he’s plotting how to prevent Joe Biden from taking power on Jan. 20. He’s tweeting about filing some lawsuits, those lawsuits will fail, then he’ll tweet some more about how the election was stolen, and then he’ll leave.”

"Joyce, the chair of the Republican Governance Group, a centrist group in the House, was asked by ABC "This Week" anchor George Stephanopoulos to respond to Trump's post on Saturday on his Truth Social platform. The former president wrongly asserted that the "massive fraud" -- which did not occur -- "allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."

How is any group which refuses to strongly denounce any such attack on the Constitution labeled "centrist"?

How the Hell do they work around the presidential oath of office?

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Replace it with the GOP's oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of Republican President of the Sovereign Sates, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, expand and defend State's Rights and Independent Legislatures against the obstructions of the anti-Republican Constitution of the United States."?

Republican lawmakers do not care about our democratic form of government or the US Constitution. These GOP lawmakers are too scared of TFG to do the right thing

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/12/04/trump-constitution-republicans/?utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

Donald Trump’s suggestion this weekend that the U.S. Constitution should be terminated in response to his baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen drew a largely muted response from Republicans, the latest sign that many GOP officials remain reluctant to take on the former president even as he challenges the country’s founding precepts......

But only a handful of Republican lawmakers have joined the White House and Democrats in condemning Trump’s assertions. Representatives for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) did not respond on Sunday to requests for comment.

Last month, McCarthy announced that Republicans would read every word of the Constitution out loud on the floor of the House when the GOP takes control of the chamber in January.

Some GOP lawmakers who were asked on Sunday political shows about Trump’s latest missive said they disagreed with the former president. However, most still hesitated to say that they would oppose Trump if he becomes the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee......

Although Tribe acknowledged that Trump has said many outrageous things that should not always command attention, he does not believe this latest statement should be brushed off, particularly after Trump’s baseless claims about the 2020 election led to a pro-Trump mob storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral win.

It’s a distinctive statement. It sort of says the quiet part out loud — that he has no reverence for the country, for anything other than himself,” Tribe said. “This is like saying, ‘You want to see an insurrection? I’ll show you an insurrection. I’ll just tear the whole thing up.’ ”

Lend support to Trump verbally while hoping and predicting he LOSES the primary.

That way the GOP keeps the Trump base after he's defeated in the Primary.

then the Constitution (2nd amendment only but they say the whole thing) is sacred as if it was carved in stone tablets by God. Ex-President impeached for insurrection makes statement about terminating it showing he is still in the process of attempting a coup is no big deal.

Unbelievable we tried to overthrow the election and everything else and all this shocks Republicans. They only say that now since Trump backed candidates mostly lost in the election.
