Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat I'm seeing when I search Twitter without filters is getting worse and worse.
I don't log in, and I erase browsing history and cookies. I don't see tweets filtered by people I'm following. I just try to do quick scans of what's being said on Twitter re particular keywords and names (not hashtags, and I don't check by what's trending).
And over the last few weeks I've noticed RWNJ posts taking over more and more of the "Top" tweets.
Searches for Musk's name in the last 24 hours are now turning up 90% plus (sometimes it seems like 99%) tweets praising him, almost no criticism. The "Top" tweets are more and more including accounts with few if any followers, tweets apparently being boosted because they praise Musk.
I'm not seeing any tweets from favorite liberal politicians, pundits, journalists and celebrities unless I type in their names to look specifically at their tweets. They're not showing up as Top tweets about Musk the way they once would.
I'm not even seeing very many RWNJ accounts I recognize, since so many of these trivial RWNJ accounts are being boosted. I have seen some from Boebert. Juanita Broaddrick has turned into a Musk groupie since he let her back on the platform. Nick Adams, who was trying to be Trump's biggest ass-kisser, is now kissing Musk's ass as well, though someone named Matt Wallace (I have no idea who he is other than a Dogecoin influencer) has been vying to be Musk's Nick Adams, with each tweet more worshipful of Musk than the last.
It's a RWNJ hellscape. And I believe that's by design.
Okay, I just saw Fox News and the Washington Times, and I saw Newsmax doing this search yesterday. I'm not seeing tweets from major news media without a RW bias.
You'd think almost everyone adores Musk, if you were new to Twitter and just searching for his name.
He tweeted this morning about Twitter being a "hive mind." It's obvious how he wants that hive mind to operate.
And it isn't anything close to free speech, or a global town square.

The best plan is to just let it go and forget about it.

(1,127 posts)But as you're probably already seeing, the way Mastodon's feeds work is better than twitter even though it provides equivalent functionality. It's just scaled to 8 million users - of course there are always growing pains and unexpected consequences of exponential growth. It will be interesting to see how it evolves as the user base continues to grow.
Have a good one. See you on Mastodon

(49,041 posts)to try to find tweets that broke Twitter rules, and report all of those.
And there's that huge effort with a list of 5,000 liberal accounts they want people to target. The tweet I saw today didn't mention the list, but I thought their urging people to look way back at old tweets was interesting.
