Some Trump Jewish Allies at Breaking Point After Kanye West, Nick Fuentes Meeting

(snip)

Republicans have tried for decades to boost their generally tepid support among the nation’s Jewish voters, who gave President Biden nearly 70% their vote in 2020 despite Mr. Trump’s argument that they should reward his stalwart backing of the Israeli government. Now, some prominent Jewish leaders say that Mr. Trump has both damaged his nascent 2024 presidential campaign and hampered his party’s outreach as a result of his dinner with the rapper Kanye West and the white nationalist Nick Fuentes, as well as his refusal to apologize for hosting them at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Many Jewish leaders, including Mr. Hikind, say a spate of anti-Semitic violence and harassment around the country has created an elevated sense of threat from hateful speech—and that the image of any political leader will suffer for failing to sever ties with Mr. Trump.

(snip)

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the party’s likely selection to be the next House speaker, and some others have condemned Messrs. West and Fuentes on their anti-Semitic and racist views while avoiding direct criticism of Mr. Trump. Some in the GOP have denounced Mr. Trump over the dinner. They include several Republican leaders who might challenge him for the party’s presidential nomination, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, suggesting that the moral and political dangers of Mr. Trump’s actions extend beyond Jewish voters, few of whom participate in Republican primary elections.

(snip)

Rep. Lee Zeldin, who some in the GOP are promoting to be party chairman after his loss in this year’s election for governor of New York, this past week called Mr. West a “deranged anti-Semite,” but a spokeswoman said he hasn’t criticized Mr. Trump.

Very few denounced the Trumpsters in Charlottesville yelling that the ovens would be ready for the Jews again and 'Jews will not replace us'.

'Good people on both sides' Donald said.

That's the only thing I can figure. He was all "Rah Rah, Israel can do no wrong," and "Boo, Muslims suck," especially early in his presidency. He didn't really show the antisemitism early on, except for the Charlottesville slip up, and he explained that away by claiming the "very fine people" he said were there weren't the Nazis and white nationalists. Oh, no, he said, he was talking about "people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."

Of course, the people who did the violence and caused all the trouble were the Nazis and white nationalists who showed up for their Unite the Right rally, and there is no evidence there was anyone there peacefully protesting the removal of the statue just because they were R.E. Lee fans, but Trump managed to give those who wanted to believe he wasn't defending Nazis an excuse to believe that.

So anyone who wanted to continue supporting him because of his expressed pro-Israel views had an excuse to ignore the Charlottesville thing and go on being Trump supporters. Because people are really good at rationalizing away things they don't want to believe.

At least that's my theory.

Donald Trump should be “condemning” antisemitism following his meeting with the rapper Ye and Nick Fuentes, Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

The former and likely future Israeli prime minister told NBC’s Meet the Press the former president’s recent dinner with the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, who has repeatedly made antisemitic remarks, and Fuentes, a white nationalist and Holocaust denier, was “not merely unacceptable, it’s just wrong”.

Netanyahu won a majority in November, aided by ultra-Orthodox parties and an alliance with the far right. He is in the process of forming a government.

Anti-Semites of any stripe should be abandoned! Of course, they are still "bad Jews" because they don't conform to expectations of the kindly gentilesplainers.

broken off from the coalition to understand the nature of the break.

Anti-Semitism is not just a feature of the far-right. I know many Jews who have been stung by BDS-style bigotry that masquerades as anti-Zionism while they were in college, and it has had a profoundly negative impact.

We need to be real about this.
