Florida: 75 year old kills two 81 year olds over hoa issues

When officers arrived they found Ginger Wallace, 81, and her husband Henry, also 81, had been fatally shot.

According to Treasure Coast Newspapers, the couple were shot just feet away from their door and that they had suffered bullet wounds to their chests.

Henry was reportedly found clutching his house keys, according to the network.

According to The Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 104 people in Florida have been shot dead since November 1 this year.

Police subsequently apprehended 75-year-old Hugh Hootman on suspicion of having shot the elderly couple.

An MCSO spokesperson said in a Sunday Facebook post: "An ongoing despute appeared to be at the center of the killings. Hootman lived in the condominium above the Wallaces."

Instead we can see that an armed society is violent, vicious and out of control.

11. In context of the story that saying comes from, it's sarcastic.

The "armed society is a polite society" indicated that to keep everyone from being shot at random, people in public go around carefully fearful and polite to ensure no one got mad and started firing at will.
An armed society restricts speech and individual activity in public.
Yes, Heinlein ended up being a Liberatarian (he started out a Eugene Debs supporter, but his second wife/co-writer was a Republican), but he also wasn't stupid when it came to realistically observing human nature.

Just like my six-year old granddaughter take house rules out of context to suit her thinking at the time.
Hopefully, she will grow out of it. These "fine people" never did.

14. A six year old typically exhibits the self interest stage of moral development.

They do not yet posses the cognitive skills or emotional maturity to function at a higher level.

Yes most children advance to later stages of moral development which incorporate ethics and a moral core.

We can see now that many Americans appear to be stuck at lower levels, self interest is the key value.
No attempt at all to show concern for promoting the social contract or general welfare.

5. Just one of the many reasons I do not carry a weapon or have one in the house ...

... I'm old, and I really feel there ought to age limits for owning on both ends. Over 21 and under 70. For the record: I am past 70. Well past 70.

A jerk about 50 pulled a stunt at a light a block away from my home last week. I gave a light beep. He followed me onto my property and proceeded to dare me to a fight. If I had a pistol, I might have shot him and walked: this is Texas and I was standing my ground and repeatedly telling to get off private property.

No doubt about it: I needed disarming, and I'm glad I became so when I got rid of the last weapon ... a single shot shotgun I used to give the pheasants a fair chance, in Nebraska over 25 years ago.

There are just plain too many self appointed avenging angels out there.

over the guy parking on his property. he was so pissed the other day I had to talk him down. Honestly all I could think of is stories like this, and I told him that. turns out the guy has lots and lots of guns.

it's the stuff of nightmares.

I posted the link on fb with the comment, "Good thing the man had a gun handy so they didn't have to work out the issue in a reasonable way."

Sure, MAYBE you have a perceptive family member around to take your gun when your dementia becomes dangerous, but what if you don't? Can you imagine if nursing homes let everybody pack heat in the cafeteria?
