(115,928 posts)And to think there was actually support for him running for president, on DU and elsewhere. He was the big hero, was regularly interviewed on the cable shows - Melber and O'Donnell thought he was the bee's knees for awhile - due to his representation of Stormy Daniels vs. TFG. He later stole almost $400K from Daniels and got four years for that. Lock him up.

Ocelot II
(115,928 posts)for pointing out early on that Avenatti wasn't all that - it was pretty obvious that he was just in it for the publicity when a NY judge told him that he could either intervene in the Cohen case on behalf of his client's privacy interests or he could do TV interviews, but not both - and he chose to keep doing TV interviews instead of protecting his client's interests.

(115,928 posts)Many talking heads and media pundits were delighted because it was further evidence of Democrats In Disarray. Some DUers loved the idea of fighting the GOP's rude, disreputable, narcissistic asshole with a rude, disreputable, narcissistic asshole of our own. Fortunately Avenatti's manifold sins and wickednesses started to catch up with him at about that time, and we were at least spared that embarrassing spectacle.

(146,341 posts)It's always fun to watch folks declare that someone who gets some publicity on the news should "run for President."
It doesn't seem to matter whether such people are in any way qualified or suited for that job. A flash of popularity and there are people who clamor for the Presidency for the newly popular person.
Oprah? Avenatti? It's all silliness and interferes with the genuinely serious task of choosing a candidate.
By the same token, if a candidate, especially a female one, is in the least disliked by someone, people are quick to condemn that person's candidacy. We saw that with Hillary Clinton. I remember one person I knew who voted for Jill Stein. When I asked why, she said, "Well, I just don't like Hillary." Later on, I asked her how she liked Donald Trump. She made a face and refused to say anything at all.
Bizarre!

(6,634 posts)I remember his fanbase here. Admittedly, it was fun hearing him mouth-off about Dump, but that doesn't mean he'd make a good President. (Anymore than Walker's past would make him a good Senator.)
Dorian Gray
(13,515 posts)He had a twitter following that believed he could do no wrong. And i remember posts here where people supported him saying we needed a fighter like him. He was willing to fight fire with fire re: trump.
I suppose if we're looking for an unrepentant asshole who has no shame, he's our guy.
Thank God support for him has been put to bed.
Now if only they'd do the same thing for the number one grifting asshole in america, I'd feel good about society.

There's a massive imbalance in our justice system.

(15,320 posts)because they don't want to deal with people who are strangely giddy over a Dem public figure who turned out to be a con artist. Maybe instead of gloating they should feel grateful for having ESP. Because I'm sure they will also be strangely quiet when one of their own heroes takes a fall, for the exact same reason.

(90,939 posts)Shortly after Avenatti rocketed to national prominence by taking on the Stormy Daniels case, the Los Angeles Times did an in-depth article on his career, since a lot of his career was in California. It was not pretty he hurt his clients. Fast-forward: he hurt Stormy, who didnt deserve that kind of treatment.
I shared the info here at the time because some people were going over the edge in their enthusiasm and really had no idea what kind of man he was.
So yeah. All of what Ocelot and Skimmer said above.
And for the record, I get no particular pleasure out of saying I told you so.

(115,928 posts)I don't feel good about it; I'm just pissed off that (a) Avenatti is such an embarrassment to the legal profession, and (b) that so many people can be so easily taken in by the latest shiny object just because they were slinging shit at TFG.The enemy of my enemy is my friend only up to a point.
Really?
Recognizing a con artist requires ESP?

Seriously. There are many politicians I like, but I would never argue that they can't do wrong.
And Avenatti was an obvious big mouth and grifter from the start. Everything about him screamed slime-ball.
