Experts shocked as Gorsuch angrily accuses Colorado of forcing anti-LGBTQ baker into re-education program

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch appeared angry and even hostile at several points throughout Mondays oral arguments in a case brought by a Colorado right-wing evangelical Christian website designer who is suing the state because she wants to be able to discriminate against same-sex couples who are getting married.
The case, 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, promises to be one of the most important of the term, and arguments extended more than two hours.
During one of the more heated moments, conservative Justice Gorsuch attacked Colorado Solicitor General Eric Olson, claiming the state forced an infamous anti-LGBTQ baker who also went before the Supreme Court, winning his 2018 case in a very narrow ruling, into a re-education program.

And just think this "judge" got on this court with dark money from the federalist society with help from that senator from Kentucky......#Moscow Mitch...... he just eviscerated the Constitution and Article II Section 2 to have this jerk on the bench....
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has it right in his book:
The Scheme: How the Right Wing Used Dark Money to Capture the Supreme Court Hardcover October 18, 2022

(1,298 posts)Not merely to help bigoted citizens understand what it means to comply with the law but also to help corrupt self-entitled SC judges, several of whom perjured themselves to get the gig, get a grip on their responsibilities to the rule of law and the American people and their rights.

(2,187 posts)Good grief, expand the court and make these fascists irrelevant before they can do any more damage to this country.
We know they will.
Is there really anyone in this country besides "concerned" Susan Collins that was fooled by ANY of them?

(2,187 posts)But it's clear that they all lied through their teeth.

(31,008 posts)And these people bringing the lawsuits. I dont understand why a small business person would turn down good business like this.

(3,166 posts)Small businesses cant afford to turn away business.
I still dont understand how this person can bring a suit against Colorado when no gay couple has yet asked her to design a wedding site. Shes suing before the fact? I dont get it.
Walleye
(31,008 posts)wonder if some maga person/group quietly paid her to do this. I would think that no gay couple would want anyone like this designing their wedding site anyway. I would think they wouldnt want anyone like this to bake the cake or provide any food for the wedding.

(766 posts)Everytime this theocratic Federalist Society Supreme Court holds a hearing or makes another "own the libs" ruling I'm reminded of the consequences of the 2016 election.
If 80,000 votes in 3 states had gone the other way Hillary would have been elected President and we'd have a majority on the Supreme Court right now.

(2,654 posts)These cases are groomed so that the issues can be heard by the conservative court which, in the case involving prayer after high school football games, overturns precedent establishing separation of church and state.
markpkessinger
(8,392 posts). . . And this case in particular especially falls into the the "groomed" category. There isn't even an underlying dispute, because no one actually asked this designer to design a web site for a same sex wedding!

(2,654 posts)The case about prayer after high school football games sets the precedent of "tradition." (Gorsuch lied to find that such a tradition existed in the facts of that case.) Down the line, the "tradition" standard will be used to justify static nativity displays on government property.

(58,785 posts)putting his imprimature as a high court justice on Fox and OAN propaganda. I've heard and seen him before (initially eliciting appalled dismay from me) push blatant Fox lies. Something we're not accustomed to seeing out of SCOTUS.
To get all angry on behalf of the lies... What would his "judicial temperament" be measured at? -50? How about simple honesty and morality? What a horrible national mistake.
Not to forget, this happened on OUR watch. Democracy's as good or bad as the commitment to it of its people. Those capable of understanding and caring, anyway. It was never everyone.

(25,816 posts)If 303 Creative LLC is allowed to refuse services to same sex couples, it opens the door to refusing
services for just about any reason. Religion, skin color, the repercussions are endless.

(8,392 posts). . . but I gotta say, overall, I thought Olson did a lackluster job. Very disappointing.
