I expect the KGB has a very thick file of Kompromat on Matt. He called the Mueller investigation a HOAX. He denied men at the NRA were having sex with Russia spy Butina when they were.
As to Greenwald, he got on the Putin train at the intercept. Hes never been a jounalist, hes basically an Op-Ed author pretending to be a journalist.

GG has spent endless time on this website directing his followers to women on this site for purposes of harassment (ask @TaylorLorenz about rape and death threats) but he's making an argument here that Matt is in danger because people are calling him a reactionary.
and
No, Glenn, you craven troll. People don't show up in your DMs threatening to rape you bc another journalist says your work is bad. They do that when someone like you goes on Tucker Carlson and spreads conspiracies. Don't pretend you're suddenly concerned for other people's safety

Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)Greenwald is referencing something Yoel Roth (former head Twitter censor) said on a panel about various ideological things being stochastic terrorism. (i.e. any politics I don't like).
He's being snarky.
This is why I keep telling people to read outside the bubbles. The Yoel reference has been everywhere, and no one here seems to know it.
muriel_volestrangler
(106,208 posts)and I wouldn't say the reference has been "everywhere"; I google "Yoel Roth" "stochastic terrorism", and the first result is a reply to a Roth tweet; the second is your post itself. There are a few pages that contain both his name and 'stochastic terrorism', but none quoting him using the term.
Maybe it wasn't Roth, but someone else you're thinking of?
Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)It was Roth. He was speaking at a Knight's Foundation function. The topic at hand had to do with Twitter's suspending the Babylon Bee (a right-wing satirical publication), because they didn't like an anti-trans joke they were making. Roth's view is any joke about the community is de facto stochastic terrorism.
Free speech advocates disagree, and there have been conversations around Roth's claims that any disliked speech is a form of violence and thus deserves censoring.
That's the debate. Hence Greenwald's reference, that anyone who doesn't like what Taibbi is saying is committing a form of violence.
It's a direct reference. I understood it. People here did not, took it at face value, and just charged forward with it.
muriel_volestrangler
(106,208 posts)("Post Millennial" ). Roth was defending the suspension because they had a "no misgendering" policy (and didn't feel like saying "but it's OK if the poster thinks it's funny" ). He said "not only is it not funny, but it is dangerous, and it does contribute to an environment that makes people unsafe in the world". Because, if you haven't heard, trans people get death threats. It was not about "any joke", it was about misgendering, and whether that contributes to an unsafe environment. Calling someone a useless journalist does not make them unsafe.
No, Greenwald is not, in any meaningful sense, referring to anything like stirring up trans hatred. And your example is not "everywhere", it's in one RW publication, so no wonder no one else thinks they're connected. You must just have remembered the Post Millennial article, misremembered it as having Roth saying "stochastic terrorism", and then made a connection that wasn't there.
Sympthsical
(10,969 posts)And various places on Reddit. Because reading things I don't agree with is important to be informed.
Look, it's fine if it didn't cross your path and many of the Twitter responses. Yeah, yeah, bubbles.
But I didn't read it in the Post Millennial first, nor did I see that article until I googled re: this thread. I first read about it in a speech/Twitter debate elsewhere.
The perils of having a broad information net vs a narrow one, I suppose.
I honestly don't care. It's just another day of people not reading outside the village. So, a Tuesday basically. Be of good cheer that the villagers will all agree.
muriel_volestrangler
(106,208 posts)It's notable that wherever you saw it (and are you now agreeing that Roth didn't say "stochastic terrorism"?), it doesn't show up in a google search, so probably somewhere very obscure, or that doesn't allow indexing by search engines. Twitter and Reddit do allow indexing.
The thing about "bubbles" and "villages" goes both ways - RW sources attribute things incorrectly, claim Roth said something he didn't, and then convince each other he did. Thankfully, this does not seem to have spread beyond their bubble.

Can't really link anything here, because none of the "approved" places are discussing it.
But Swisher's podcast is on Apple and Spotify.
