We were nervously getting ready to meet a Justice of the Peace and a small group of friends at Rollins Chapel on the campus of Dartmouth College (I was a few years into getting my PhD in chemistry, my soon to be wife a nurse at the Hitchcock hospital).
Here we are having our small ceremony. It is hard to believe that I was 23, Sue 22
?format=1000w
We had lots of laughs, music, gardens, great books - lots of vacations at Ocracoke Island

Well, I finished my degree, we had our daughter - then another. We spent a year in Seattle, then 8 in Pennsylvania (Berwyn, Villanova, West Chester) - then 28 in Raleigh - now 3 in Hendersonville, NC
We still do all the things we love - I feel like the luckiest person in the world. The pic below is from one of our hikes in DuPont forest, a few weeks ago.

Hoping for decades more of health and joy with this magnificent person!

Beyond, one learns that is what its all about.
Love.
Maybe that's why you specialized in the "love apple."

(43,850 posts)First, congratulations. Youre a lucky, and obviously smart, man to have had such a long and lovely marriage.
Now, Mr Bear is from Winston-Salem and we met in Durham, when he was at Duke (computer science, hallelujah!) so I know Raleigh and Hendersonville well. Then we moved to Pittsburgh and had our two sons so I know PA well. Now were in Seattlejust north of it now but lived in the city for many years.
How we never ran into one another is a mystery. 😄
Congrats again. You sound like a good man, on and off DU.

(749 posts)40 years for me and the better half. One kiddo did the justice of the peace (and a very, very nice reception when the weather was NICER) but we opted for a ceremony, albeit a short and sweet one (no obey in either of our vows). I'm sure the economy was not gangbusters when you two got married either (unemployment was 25% in our area) but eh, we all made it through.
