Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am watching the early voting reports for the Georgia Senate runoff and Warnock is doing
very very well, BUT--- I am just a little bit sick to my stomach when I realize that the result is really, actually, no kiddin' still in doubt.
The fact that a profoundly STUPID and MORALLY BANKRUPT buffoon like Herschel Walker was intentionally proposed by the Trump party as a perfectly acceptable US Senator both disgusts and nauseates me.
It is a damn good thing no one still self-describing as "Republican" has even a vestigial sense of shame remaining.

(16,917 posts)And who's to blame? Is it tRump? Is it the RepubliQans? Is it the American Education System?
Actually, it's probably a 'circle-jerk' - everybody pointing at everybody else.
And yes, it DOES leave one 'sick to the stomach' that such a buffoon would even be CONSIDERED as a viable candidate, and still be 'so close' to actually serving in ANY governmental capacity.
CAME BACK FOR AN EDIT!
I'm NOT blaming schools - I spent 35 years working in them! I DO feel that I've failed with SO MANY crazies out there - how did I miss them!!!!!

(2,594 posts)There must be some study somewhere of the pschology of mass insanity as in what hit Germany that led to Hitler.
I've been wondering lately about the time after the war. Did they come to their senses or just rationalize like the MAGA crowd does?
Maybe it is tribalism. I did see one article that said "blame football for Trump".
Excuse the grammar . I'm too tired to correct it.

(54,268 posts)I also think that at LEAST 75% of the votes for him are from people who who know virtually nothing about him other than that magic "R" in front of his name. I'm sure that plenty of the people who did vote for him did so for that reason only. Play them the tape of his vampire speech, and I'll bet his number would crumble from where they are now. I'd even bet that some Georgia Republicans, if you played them that, or any one of several tapes of his speeches where he lapses into complete nonsense, would tell you they are fake, and you are lying, because THEIR party would never nominate such a moron for the US Senate.
By the way--you think YOUR time behind that door near the restaurant in Paris was frustrating? Have I got a Paris story for you! I'll try to stay awake long enough to post about in the Lounge.

(54,268 posts)Almost no one (including me) follows American football where I live.
But even so, how long has it been since he was an active player, and just why does being an athlete qualify someone for the US Senate anyhow? I know, I know, Bill Bradley was a basketball player. But he was also a Rhodes Scholar. Herschel Walker couldn't even SPELL Rhodes Scholar, much less be one.

(1,766 posts)And still, idiots can't forget it.
I grew up around utter LSU F-R-E-A-K-S, and I can't tell you one player's name from any year you could pick, and especially not 40 years ago.
My cousin attended UT in Austin back in the 70s, and even he can't remember any of the players from back then, except one that was in his class. I think he was a Heisman winner. Campbell? Earl Campbell? I'm pretty sure that was his name.
I guess it boils down to one's priorities, and football wasn't mine. Or my cousin's, either.

But I work all over. I was in Paris today, now in Brussels, have to be in Holland tomorrow afternoon, and then hope to make it home to Germany for dinner.

LiberalLovinLug
(14,164 posts)They'd vote for anybody running as an R. They have been so conditioned that of course even an abortionist-paying, then lying about it, dumb as bricks moron like Walker is better than a child eating pedofile communist gay grooming, open border, Democrat.
What is disturbing on a grander scale is the lack of ability to stop disinformation on more and more extreme RW media outlets and channels. And its only getting worse with the new jackass in charge of Twitter.
Because Warnock may have won this time, but the percent of those willing to suspend disbelief and follow the fat orange piper is what is really scary going forward. And I don't believe for a minute that anyone else on the R side can beat Trump in a primary.

(34,039 posts)for the past number of years i think a lot of people (republicans) view politics as if they are cheering on a fucking sports team. it obviously doesn't matter how big of a piece of shit the candidate is as long as there is an R by their name--they get the dumbass / crazy / hypocritical R vote

Walker lost by 1% the first time. He needs to do much better and at least so far it appears as if he's doing worse.

(36,818 posts)DeKalb is 65%, Cobb is 68%, Fulton is 67%. Out of the 4 largest counties, Gwinnett is the only high one at 90%. So still a ton of D votes to count and most of the rural counties are showing 99%.

(36,818 posts)Of those 11, four are DeKalb, Cobb, Fulton, and Gwinnett and those are the 4 most heavily populated counties that heavily favor Warnock. I don't see any possible way Walker can pull it off. The other 7 counties are rural and just don't have many votes.
