Federal judge declines to hold Trump in contempt of court

Washington
CNN

A federal judge declined to hold former President Donald Trump in contempt of court in a closed-door hearing on Friday, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

The sources also told CNN that Chief Judge Beryl Howell instead pressed the Trump team and the Justice Department to work together to find a mutually agreeable resolution.

ABC News first reported the judge had urged the teams to resolve the matter themselves.

The contempt proceedings for Trump ended after almost 90 minutes behind closed doors on Friday afternoon at a Washington, DC, courthouse.

If a few pieces of paper were in a random storage unit, whatever hasn't been recovered yet is probably scattered all over who knows where.

According to sources, the judge questioned prosecutors on how she could hold Trump’s team in contempt given the steps Trump’s lawyers have taken to alleviate the Justice Department’s concerns that there may still be records in Trump’s possession.

WHAT?????????????????????? Are you KIDDING ME?????????????

He LIED about the documents for MONTHS, then said he had turned them all over, when he HAD NOT, then his lawyer LIED in a letter saying they had "looked everywhere" and found nothing else, then the government FINALLY got a warrant and took the items, then they LIED and said there were not any more, then they said "oh its crazy we found a few more at Bedminster". I think the concept of TRUST ME has been SHATTERED into a million pieces here.

And that judge has the AUDACITY to say he is doing everything he can to "alleviate justice department concerns"?????????? Who knows WHAT ELSE he has hidden all over the place! Does national security mean NOTHING? I can't believe how flippantly these classified documents are being treated!!!!!!!

Hopefully someone will explain this in a better way soon.

The courts, judges, need to make up their fucking minds. Is stealing secret documents, refusing to return them, obstruction, a serious matter or not.

The DOJ did not ask for contempt charges on a whim, for the hell of it. The DOJ has given Trump plenty of chances to comply.

You have the evidence. Do your job and indict. There is no need to waste further time with appeals and requests.

Also, maybe the DOJ knows what documents are still missing and what Trump is still holding on to? Perhaps they were trying to get a perjury charge against the Trump team?
