For those unaware:
bartcop (born Terrence R. Coppage September 12, 1953 - March 5, 2014) was a liberal blogger from Tulsa, Oklahoma, active on the web since 1996 who produced his own internet radio show beginning in 2004. On his death he received many tributes from the liberal blogosphere.[1]
bartcop.com consisted of humorous political commentary from a liberal perspective. Scathing criticism of the Republicans, and sometimes Democrats in signature bartcop "rants" were a main draw of the site. Although a serious political commentator (i.e., his site is not satire), bartcop sometimes described himself as primarily a comedian. The constant witticisms and humor that defined his page gained him a large and loyal readership.
bartcop was an ardent Bill Clinton loyalist. He supported Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency in 2008, and had been an outspoken opponent of Barack Obama, splitting with the majority of the liberal Blogosphere and causing much controversy from late 2007 up until June 2008, when Sen. Obama secured enough delegates to carry his party's nomination. Since then, bartcop threw full support behind Sen. Obama

I sure miss it and wish I could remember the name of the place. Of course, I also miss MWO. It's pretty funny that no one has ever discovered who actually ran the site, though there have been many theories.
2001 I believe. It took forever for his page to load on dial-up.

He was a little over the top sometimes. I'd often send him a blurb about that and he'd always reply that that was his intention; to have fun at his critics' expense.
RIP Bartcop, wherever you are...

(3,536 posts)I learned so much about the disfunction at the heart of American media from that site! All the lies about Al Gore were documented in vivid detail. All those web sites got me through the gut wrenching 2000 election debacle, which of course led us directly (if via 9/11) into the gulf war. And here we are, 22 years later

I pulled this comment by "Skinner" who I think founded DU, in the Bartcop thread he writes:
Back in the days when there was no "liberal blogosphere" or "netroots"; there were only "anti-Bush websites".
Before DU there was Buzzflash, Smirking Chimp, and BartCop.
That was pretty much the entire liberal presence on the internet.
Bart gave DU a prominent link on his homepage, and sent us lots of traffic.
I think it is arguable that he did more for DU than anyone else on the Internet.
Thank you, Bart. RIP.

(6,841 posts)Chinaco Anejo was his stated preference while my taste has gravitated to the raw desert vegetable of Blanco. But I do retain his tip on consumption technique: micro-sips, undiluted and served at room temperature with genial conversation. He was one of those who doggedly and unapologetically pointed to the vast right-wing conspiracy as the most threatening terrorist group in our midst.

(1,798 posts)I'm not going to get the wording right, but I will always be grateful for the insight:
"Anytime making a mistake puts money or power into a person's or an institution's pocket, you can expect them to make that mistake again and again."
I got sent here by Bartcop too.
I had a couple of exchanges on his site, I remember in particular discussing why Obama had avoided discussing race, but then when his hand was forced, gave a really valuable discourse on it.
Is Chinaco Anejo still available?
GB_RN
(2,371 posts)Any time a person or entity makes a "mistake" that puts extra money (or power) in their pocket, expect them to make that "mistake" again and again and again. That's why refineries have fires now and then, because a fire allows them to scream "unexpected shortage" so they can gouge us on the price of gas.
You can see all of Barts Laws here.
jmowreader
(50,562 posts)I don't remember the exact wording of the joke, but it revolved around the Navy wanting to name a ship for Dubya. Since they didn't want to build a new ship to name after him they wanted to rechristen a ship the USS George W. Bush, and had a contest where sailors could propose ships for the honor. The winning ship was the USS Oriskany, which the Navy had sunk and turned into an artificial reef in 2006. The winner's prize was a week of uncharged leave and removal of two disciplinary actions from his personnel file.
Terry was a really fine person. I'm just glad that if he had to die, which we all do, he died before the tragedy of the Trump Administration. He couldn't have handled that.
