1. A 25 yo's credit score being 'bad' doesn't mean that much

If you have only a few accounts and/or if none are long standing (both logical when you're 25), and/or if your utilization of your available credit is relatively high (like over 30%) ... your credit score is not going be very good. You add like one screw up of being 30 days past due ... it's gonna be bad.

DC is expensive. They should've been happy you even considered their place. If you could pay up front, they wouldn't give a shit about your credit. Can you get a co-signer for a different place? I wouldn't want to live there anyway after being lied to. Please make this one of your pet projects. We're all going through the same crap. Something good will happen for you. Don't get discouraged. We're behind you.

nothing new other than maybe a non-refundable fee. Congress critters have long had a problem affording/finding housing in DC. Which is why many in the past/present have shared housing.

10. This business of charging people for a credit check to rent is outrageous.

A person looking for an apartment can spend hundreds of dollars on credit checks. If someone pays for a credit check, they should at least get the printed results of that credit check.
