Women are getting angrier, according to a BBC analysis of 10 years of data from the Gallup World Poll. Over 120,000 people in more than 150 countries are surveyed by Gallup every year about their emotions and the results are not particularly cheery. Women consistently report feeling negative emotions more than men, and, since 2012, more women than men report feeling sad and worried. While men aren’t exactly doing great – both genders report feeling more worried than they did a decade ago – there’s a widening gender rage gap.

The rage gap is particularly extreme in some countries. In India, for example, 40.6% of women said they felt anger during a lot of the previous day in 2021 compared with 27.8% of men. Those numbers are up from around 30% (women) and 26% (men) in 2012. The gender rage gap was also more striking during the first year of the pandemic across many countries.

We’ve been conditioned for ~10,000 years to accept a rigid structure of societal norms that are no longer acceptable, desirable, or sustainable if we expect to survive and thrive into the distant future.

After two or three waves of feminism have washed through the culture, I’m guessing that women (and a growing percentage of men) are collectively becoming more fed up and impatient as our species evolves.

The women I know are angry with other women. Specifically, women who sexualize themselves all over the internet and in their daily lives. A few weeks ago I made a joke about Elizabeth Hurley and me dating. Man, it was like I insulted their family or something. These women went off not only on her, but Spears, Kim K, etc, etc. Then they attacked some local women that they deemed were flaunting their bodies. This group I knew ranged in age from 28 to 76 years old (12 of them in total).

But, seriously, isn’t it the same as telling a woman to “smile.” There’s a lot of crap to deal with: kids, jobs, denial of women’s healthcare, everything Republican. This is all stuff we have to face and it’s hard. Saying “women are getting angrier,” is like saying firefighters dealing with a blaze are getting hotter.

Try being half a citizen with no control over your body or future! If men were truly concerned we all, together, could shut this county down for a week and that would be the end of it. Unfortunately things will only get worse here as the empowered men at the shallow end of the gene pool are already discounting females in public!

You can't do it. Even with the greatest will in the world to prove yourself right, even if you never vote or never do a thing to protect yourself, others will. Impossible.

We should know by now how impressionable we all tend to be and how devastatingly, even eagerly so some are. People are being told to be angry, so they are. That's not the whole thing, by any means, but growing smaller anxieties and resentments into destructive conflagrations is the strategy RW authoritarian movements are using to destabilize and tear the planet apart.

U.S. too, of course. Populist grievance politics, on both right and left, is based on that. "If women and men were truly concerned, we all, together, could shut it down." Just imagine if positive, yes-we-can plans generated enthusiastic political donations and divisive political attacks mostly gathered virtual dust.

Without all the extra anger, we'd remember that we want mostly the same things, men as well as women. And we'd be ABLE to unite to fix most of what bothers us.

United we stand, divided we fall.

I don’t think political donations alone can cut it. Yes if we limit corporation donations then ramping up personal donations might help. This year I found the more I gave the more they hounded me. I think we are going to need more of an Icelandic United women front to set things right in the US because we have taken this so far thing down the road. It will take everyone take all genders to drive the point home.

on this issue. In spite the packing of SCOTUS with extremist RW agents, this is ours to win.

None of the many rights groups have been able to draw us together a fraction as well as the religioius male-dominated Republican Party and its agents on the high court. Nothing like fear to make people finally pay attention.

But resistance has to be focused, against those actually trying to take away our rights. Many men are on our side in this, including many conservative men. They don't just support the rights of women they care about but also have reproductive rights of their own to protect.

The only "negative" for me is I am more likely to pick my situations to avoid the rude, arrogant, selfish - and so forth. After 2 years of peace not having to deal with them in social situations, I just don't have the patience for dumbshits.

Sun Dec 11, 2022, 01:34 PM

They haven't done that for literally decades now. They call cell phones and landlines and even text people!

Really!

Yes, pollsters still call people with landlines, because guess what? Not everyone has a cell phone. Not everyone who has a cell phone can use one at home, and not everyone has high speed internet access.

Really!

I know for a fact that people still use landlines, and why. For instance: My mother who has zero use for computer anything lives in a populated area, but is somehow in a cell phone dead zone. It literally cuts off as soon as my car tires hit her driveway. I know, because I've had multiple calls die on me, right there. And with multiple cell phone providers over the years. And I'm always on the phone at that point, to let her know I've arrived. Because she's the kind of mom who thinks I'm dead along a roadside, or a potential serial killer, if I don't call her to let her know that a) I've finally arrived at her house and b) that it's me about to knock on her door, not a serial killer.

So, anyway, she has a landline in addition to her mobile, and a good thing, given that she's 83 years old and not in the best of health.

Should a good Democrat like her not get polled because all she has is a landline at home, where she is most of the time? I say she deserves to get polled, regardless of contact method.

So yes, pollsters still call SOME landlines, because close to 30% of the population has that as a primary means of communication. But not ALL of their calls are to landlines. Not even a majority of them are.

What part of that is so hard for so many to understand?
