In 2016, he was paying off Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet. He could not afford for the story to become public. It was an automatic disqualifier.
We now understand better why he refused to turn over his tax reports in 2016. He had business loans with a business in North Korea, probably the worst dictatorship on Earth. We can see now why he was all lovey-dovey with Kim Jong Un. They "fell in love".
He had shady business dealings all around the world. But he refused to make them public. His lies and character assassinations put him in the White House.
The truth of the matter is that he was never qualified to serve as President. It was probably the biggest political mistake this country has ever made.

(4,041 posts)Everyone who runs for president, at least, should have to pass a security clearance check when they file declaration that they are running. Fail the check, then you are not qualified to run.

(41,594 posts)However that's a separate issue altogether. Chump would have never passed a security clearance, had he been required to do so. But his disqualifications were so obvious to most of us that it never should have gotten to that point.
When did the Repuke Party ever vet their candidate, like ever? A simple google search should have disqualified him from being allowed to run.

(7,334 posts)We have gone from teaching Critical Thinking skills, required to thrive in a Technological Society, to...
teaching how to answer multiple choice questions on racist misogynistic standardized tests.
THAT is why someone like TFG could get elected.
Almost half (or more) of the electorate does not know HOW to think.

(1,766 posts)All of my K-12 education happened before Traitor I got elected in 1980.
That's why I know schools have never taught critical thinking.
Not directly.
An occasional individual teacher has tried to do it. Then faced a tsunami of parental whining because now little Debbie or Vinnie is questioning and challenging everything their parents say. That's why teaching actual critical thinking in schools has never lasted for more than a couple of months, at most. Ever.
Now it was taught indirectly in classes like math, science and English/history, where you had to back up your answers with proof (math) or evidence (science) or citation (English/history).
But not directly.
Like it or not, most parents care more about their children being OBEDIENT than about them being truly educated.

(7,334 posts)Critical Thinking is not a rote coarse, it is a METHOD of teaching, using experience and written/oral assigments, and having children learn to use their grey matter in creative ways. Good for Human progress.
Now, teaching mandated test skills is paramount. Rote thinking. Good for creating soldiers, factory line workers, ag workers, and wage slaves.
Perhaps you would accept teaching creativity is an actual thing that is just not done much in public education anymore.
Critical Thinking skills absolutely were taught, indeed. I went through the NC public school system in the 1960's/70's - and even though it was one of the lower rated systems of education in the country then, I still learned Critical Thinking/Creativity skills despite the system's poor quality.

(1,766 posts)It was endemic to our system. The advances of the New Deal and Great Society and postwar middle class were anomalies, not the norm.
In fact, America has been a rather awful nation, for most of its history. Granted, for white straight males of means and of the dominant religion, it's always been a great place.
For everyone else? Not so much.

(23,168 posts)on forcing their country view on the rest of us. They want figureheads, and the more corrupt or superficial the figurehead, the more likely the figurehead is to go along with the power trip. reagan had dementia, fine by the facists. bush sr. was venal, and acted as close to the line as he could without revealing that he agreed with the fascists and furthered their agenda without visibly besmirching himself. bush jr. was and is morally bankrupt. trump was the best choice for fascists, the worst millstone for the country. And don't forget-bush was installed, traitor was installed. The majority did not want either, and the (formerly) s.c. put one in, and the electoral college put the other in, much to a great loss of face for this country. Back in the day, I heard some sources thought bush sr. ran reagan's government, and that cheney ran bush jr's. The last republican president was Eisenhower. Since then, no person who regards themselves as r's have been good for the U.S. or U.S. interests across the world.

There is nothing...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING redeeming about the entire clan of Donnie Dipshits family.
I wish for nothing else but reading his fucking obituary, putting down the paper, opening my search browser and typing; "is Donnie Dipshit even still alive"?

The right wingers of our country hate us so much they would vote for a serial killer against a Dem as a backhanded way of saying, no matter how horrible our candidate is, we would prefer them to one of you.
I guess the difference between them and us is that we actually care about the integrity of our candidate....and that we are seeking a better America, not just a bigger party or ultimate control.

(59 posts)I'm glad you mentioned George W. Bush because I couldn't understand how he managed to get re-elected in 2004. His many failures should have been a no brainer for voters. He failed in many things and got us into a war we never had any legitimate reason to get into. Plus, his religious baloney was a violation of the separation of church and state. He had every right to believe as he personally wanted, don't get me wrong, but we really did not need a President telling the National Park Service they should have "equal time" given to creationism by making them stock creationist books in their Grand Canyon National Park gift shop. He was a proponent of that equal time garbage all through his Presidency. Because of him I joined the National Center for Science Education. Of course, he was not the only one saying this stuff, but he gave the creationists power and influence which I began combating 30 years ago before W was ever president, and have continued to do so.
