Oh, just another $25 billion in shareholder value up in flames.
I wonder when Tesla shareholders are going to file their first lawsuit about Musk tanking the stock.

(17,802 posts)Sometimes, stocks go down. Sometimes, they go up.
An inter-day swing means exactly squat unless you are actively trading.
What is the 30-60-90 day trend? How does that relate to the industry? To the market?
It could be back by 3.

(17,802 posts)Institutional and fund holdings regulate the stock price; not earnings.
I'm sure tesla's sales are hurting, but that won't directly impact stock prices as long as the shot callers hold their stakes.

(22,983 posts)It hit a "temporary" low of 254.68 on 2-23-22.
On 4-4-22 it hit it's last peak at 381.82.
Right now it's value is what it was in November of 2020 with no clear sign of or reason for a rebound.

(11,218 posts)It's a trend. Given Tesla problems coupled with Musk's tanking of his brand I'd imagine it'll continue to slide.

(9,230 posts)On 9/19/22, it was at 309. Today it's at 171.
With Muskie shooting off his mouth with such ridiculous statements, I expect it will continue to fall.
I agree that at some point the stockholders will rebel.

(9,230 posts)As of this post it's about 168; down by almost 60% from its year high.
Of course the other reason the stock is dropping is competition. Tesla is still the top dog in full electrics, but it's share of new all electric sales will continue to drop as other auto makers come into the all electric market.
Add that to Muskie's radical political position and that stock will continue it's downward trend.
Investors may not care about a company's politics, but car buyers do.

(7,839 posts)No good alternative to Tesla now, the company a decade ahead of its time.
Decade over soon.

(9,709 posts)For people new to these numbers. PE numbers over 20, okay 30) mean strong growth and or over priced.
PE under 10 means no growth expected and may crash. Or its undervalued.

(5,632 posts)They are inseparable, like conjoined twins. So that when one starts to fall from grace, it brings the other down. Musk makes everything about him, so that a Tesla stock is a Musk stock.
I wouldn't buy one.

(15,024 posts)This is one day of trading, and any recent downward trend has more to do with potential COVID lockdowns in China than Musk beclowning himself.

(18,901 posts)Musk's behavior is offensive to a lot of current and potential future customers, and is making people consider viable alternatives. I would not be surprised if other car companies make significant gains in the EV marketplace over the next couple of years to the detriment of Tesla's current market share, which has been drifting down over the last year; Musk's escapades will probably accelerate that trend.
I also suspect that Musk and Peter Thiel communicate with each other quite a bit, since they share a common Paypal history -- and that Thiel has made an influence on Musk's political views.
