Yet...FunnyNotFunny
I don't think he believes this. He hopes others are ignorant enough to believe it. And many MAGA voters probably are. If he does believe it, he needs to be in a straightjacket or otherwise psychologically evaluated because something is wrong with him. And no I'm not joking. Mental illness is not a joke. ESPECIALLY when mentally ill people are in or near the levers of political power.
He told conservative radio host Eric Metaxas he has seen it circling above the White House, as have others who spent enough time looking. During Sundays edition of The Eric Metaxas Radio Show, the host asked Stone about his views on the supernatural.
Metaxas asked Stone to repeat to him on the air an anecdote he had previously shared.
I think that a portal, a demonic portal, opened above the White House around the time that the Bidens moved in, Stone said. This was brought to my attention by a Christian who lives in north Florida who sent me a bunch of documents and also a bunch of notations from the Bible about portals.

(26,526 posts)I recently re-connected with a friend. All she could talk about was the fact that Bigfoot is real. She's seen it, dontcha know! Her friend had to move away because it kept throwing rocks at his house! I stated, I would have been inclined to set up a trail cam to record it. Radio silence...
She also talked about "portals." Like, you know, when people disappear on hikes and such? PORTALS! Haven't you ever seen a shimmering in the forest while hiking. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! IT'S A PORTAL!!
Batshit.

(4,090 posts)Conservatives are terrible at understanding cause and effect.
Their delusions deny reality and they consider illusions to true.
This causes them to flip the script and project a non-existent 'reality' upon the actual world.
Living in their make-believe world leads to perceiving imaginary demonic portals, hallucinations obscure the truth.
What Stone sees is actually a preview, a trailer, for the dramatic introduction of the rolling-rapture wherein the best, like Biden, go first and the holy-rollers will be left behind.

Abraham Lincoln... anyone? Didn't truly stop him from being a great President (even with the terrible flaw of not regarding African-Americans as equal to whites).
I know mental is serious issue not treated as well as it could be depending on where you are, who are your providers etc
As for Roger Stone? I don't think he has an MI he IS cruel, craven, and clever.

(13,560 posts)Im not a science fiction fan so that was the only book in the series I read. I wonder how much of this portal nonsense stems from books like Outlander when people cant tell facts from fiction.

(11,767 posts)The belief in things without evidence was too much. This facilitates your being lead around by fear invoking people. There are people (and part of me thinks that Stone does not actually believe, but I may be wrong) that have convinced themselves to the point where they will see some kind of image that they interpret as a "demonic portal". I could not continue living my life or raising my children to accept those concepts. I when I see phenomena that I cannot describe naturalistically, I try to be comfortable with the idea of, "I don't know..." or "We cannot fully explain that, for now." Which is why, while every human is susceptible to manipulation, I am likely less so than my fellow humans who are still actively practicing a religious faith based in the supernatural.

(23,840 posts)Stone gets away saying crap like this because the Christian right never reads their Bibles.
They get their Bible knowledge from evilgelicals and politicians.

(1,766 posts)While most of them haven't read it, I know plenty of fundies who have. In fact, it's ALL they read. Like my idiot cousin and her husband the fundie preacher. They've read the entire thing more times than you've bought French fries. They also conduct a well-attended bible study group, open to non-congregants, that reads the entire book over the course of the year.
And every single one of them is right-wing.
Meanwhile the vast majority of your "real" and "good" members of the faith only know what they've been told the book says. They've no more read the entire thing than I can fly.
Just so you know.
You know who besides the fundies have read the book, in its entirety?
Atheists.
Reading all of that obscenity is routinely among the top reasons listed for what made them atheists.
It certainly made me one.

(13,850 posts)what concerns me more is who Roger Stone is doing it to.
Eric Metaxes is a conservative author and religious guy. What makes me uncomfortable is that he wrote quite a well regarded book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer that is considered pretty great scholarship.
His "heel turn" to anti-vaccine and pro Jericho March is less expected, and he still has the influence of a well regarded scholar bc of it.
Who he is now EATS that Roger Stone BS up. Laps it up. But he has leftover good will from some of his earlier work, and he's influenced people into going into this negative MAGA space. That's concerning.
