(4,656 posts)Friends visiting San Francisco bay area from Hawaii always froze their tits off. (sorry for the humor, but that is how they described it) Colder than a Witches Left-Tit my friend J would say.
So it has been in the 30's-40's here. That 76F in Portland, that is not Portland Oregon, is it? (just wondering how it can be warmer further north than I am).

We are having an unusually brisk 59F here in Los Angeles today. Almost didn't wear shorts.

(11,419 posts)last year we got a lot of rain in November and December, then essentially nothing for 2 months, a few showers after that, and then into the dry season. We need sustained, moderate rain and snowfall - and for more than just a year.

(11,419 posts)Ice in the shady parts of the yard this past weekend, frost on the car and on the shady side of the neighbors' houses this morning. Luckily, hard freezes are rare - except for that time in 1991 when it got down to 22F

They like a range of temperatures in the 60 - 80 range (and moist) although they will grow in hotter temps (but will often get leaf burn growing in full blazing sun). That is often why some growers have been planting them under banana trees to give them some shade since they do better as an understory or edge of the understory plant and they do well in elevated locations in the hills.

We've been in the high 30s for a high for about 8 days now.
Not bad for December.

(19,702 posts)that's not even cold enough for more than a sweater! But, I hate heat.
My DH says some people heat efficiently, some cool efficiently, few do both.
SO, he's always cold and I'm always hot.
