This, I am pretty sure, is easily the most brilliantly run campaign I've seen in my lifetime.
The strategy of this team, and the incredible incredible work done by all the workers and volunteers in implementing it, almost defies the imagination.
Just think, every ounce of that GOTV was needed in OH, FL, and VA, and was almost enough in NC.
I think this was a much harder slog than 2008 because there was no anti-Bush wave to ride, and a difficult economy, and record amounts of GOP cash.
Every battleground won but NC. It is an awesome achievement, especially under the circumstances.
For those of you who worked, called, knocked doors, you are the entire difference (aside from the candidates, heh), and were worth more than hundreds of millions of shitty SuperPAC dollars. Thank you.

(52,166 posts)we won here by 13k votes in 2008 and the unemployment rate is among the worst in the country. Add in a local party which imploded and it is amazing we came so close.

These guys had this thing figured out down to how many houses on each block they needed to get out. Just amazing.

(21,096 posts)As Election Day approached, they assured the rest of us that the ground game was like nothing ever seen, massively better than anything Romney had going, and they themselves were in awe that every Obama voter had been called/knocked like 3-4 times over, the thing was so supersaturated, they were all going to turn out, get breakfast in bed and a ride to the poll (exaggerating a bit).
Those assurances gave me comfort that even with even-ish polls we would win through superior ground game, but seeing the results I'm astounded that we won in all those states and needed every little bit of that work. Those young people made all the difference.
It's an incredible achievement that I'm still marveling at.

(11,816 posts)During the first Clinton election, when a volunteer walked in the door, no one quite knew what to do with them.
I walked in off the street this year to canvas for Obama, and was back in my car in 15 minutes - signed in, trained, equipped with lists, maps, clipboard, pen, water and a snack, and was told in sweet but firm tones not to come back until the packet was finished, but to get it back by 5.
When I returned, the packet was being entered into the computer before I was out the door.
Ruthlessly efficient.

I do know that if we WEREN'T there, however, the Republicans would be up to Shenanigans.

(1,009 posts)With a candidate like Obama. It needed a populous candidate who was willing to address the needs of the 100%. Yes, even the 1% will benefit from Obama's re-election.
Axelrod and Plouffe could not have done this for Romney or any old GOP tripe. It only worked because they had a product that is viable.
But nonetheless, congrats to A and P for making it happen.

(19,326 posts)Every time Rmoney's latest bold-faced lie would hit a news cycle, the Obama
campaign came right back -- sometimes within a just few hours -- with a
hard-hitting powerful rebuttal, often to the point where the Rmoney campaign
probably wished they'd not even raised the issue (whatever issues it was ,
jeeps, China, you name it).
That kind of message control is what it takes, and what neither the Kerry nor
Gore campaigns ever seemed to have going for them.
