Stephen "tWitch" Boss, a key part of the long-running Ellen DeGeneres Show, has died at age 40. The man known for his incredible dance moves was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Los Angeles-area hotel on Tuesday, TMZ reports. He was a contestant on MTV's The Wade Robson Project and on Star Search before rising to fame as a dancer on So You Think You Can Dance, finishing second on Season Four of the reality show in 2008. He landed roles in several films in the Step Up franchise before joining the Ellen DeGeneres Show as a DJ in 2014. In 2020, he was named an executive producer of the show and stayed with it until its finale this past May.

(4,489 posts)For all appearances, he had it made. Married for 9 years, 3 kids, successful career. I don't know why he did it or what personal demons he had to deal with but I'm sorry for his friends and family. RIP, Stephen Boss.

(10,333 posts)I didn't watch his show much, but the few times I caught it, he always seemed to be so happy and full of life.
Do you think The Ellen DeGeneres Show ending had anything to do with this? I don't know how successful he was outside of that, since that's how I came across him. He seemed to have a young, loving family. Such a sad situation. You never know what someone else is going through, even if on the outside they seem to be living the perfect life...

(19,382 posts)If not for financial reasons then personal adulation he got from the show. He lost that when the show ended. That can be difficult to replace.

(3,379 posts)This is a huge loss to the dance community. I remember watching him on his season of So You Think You Can Dance and have followed his career since. He was extremely talented and he brought so much creativity and joy to dance. He was a fabulous mentor to other dancers and an innovative choreographer. This is so heartbreaking and I am so sad for his family.
Rest easy, Twitch.

(4,919 posts)He auditioned for his first season and he became integral to the show's future... He was a street dancer in Union Square prior to that. So very sad about this.
