He cannot seem to get the magic number of votes to get the Speaker position especially with Marjorie Taylor Greene getting involved.
There seems to be no viable second choice and there's talk if reaching across the aisle. Is there a Democratic Party member acceptable to enough people to carry the day?

The idea of coming up with constructive alternative suggestions isn't the role they choose to play.

(8,544 posts)Many devote hours to hypothesizing how it could exist, and what it may look like. No one has actually seen one who can prove it was there.
IMO in another era of the GOP it might have been possible. Many wax nostalgic for the elusive Republicans in Congress who will publicly dialog in good faith and genuinely work for the greater good. So far as I am aware none could exist once Jan. 2, 2023 arrives. They would be tortured and consumed should they speak above a whisper.

(6,280 posts)The next two years will be interesting as we move to get beyond the MAGAs. It would be nice if the two parties could work together to elect a speaker that is interested in moving forward.

(8,544 posts)There may yet be some who will quietly, furtively make small moves towards reason and compromise in the interest of their voters and the greater good. Even in the case of major disaster or compelling need they seem reluctant to break cover and risk being primaried, pilloried or much worse.
