U.S. Senate passes record $858 billion defense act, sending bill to Biden

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Senate passed legislation on Thursday authorizing a record $858 billion in annual defense spending, $45 billion more than proposed by President Joe Biden, and rescinding the military's COVID vaccine mandate.

Senators supported the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, an annual must-pass bill setting policy for the Pentagon, by an overwhelming 83-11 bipartisan majority.

The no votes came from a mix of liberals who object to the ever-rising military budget and fiscal conservatives who want tighter controls on spending.

With the House of Representatives having passed the measure last week, the NDAA next heads to the White House, where Biden is expected to quickly sign it into law.

That’s why ours is so high and the rest are able to spend it on other things. The only way to cut it is to tell the world they are on their own except 2 percent to the UN and 2 percent to NATO. I actually don’t want that. I doubt many would. This week we are sending Africa 44 billion and Ukraine some figure. We literally take care of the world militarily. I don’t see us stopping.

This is what Eisenhower really was warning about.
An industry that got so big that the economy couldn't handle substantial downsizing.
Geez, we built aircraft carriers the Navy said they didn't need & airplanes the Air Force didn't want.
But, build them we did.
The epitome of too big to fail.

I doubt there is one congressional district in the U.S. that does not have something tied to military budget. Let alone all the funds going to public universities in grants related to the military.
