Tom Lehrer has put all his songs online (including lyrics & sheet music), and given away all rights to them. The site will only be up for a limited time. This is a very niche tweet that will make a small segment of people very happy. https://tomlehrersongs.com

Terrific satire. I remember hearing him when I was still in school.

Especially love the Werner von Braun song:
https://tomlehrersongs.com/wernher-von-braun/

"Once the rockets are up,
Who cares where they come down?
That's not my department,"
Says Wernher von Braun.

Some have harsh words for this man of renown,
But some think our attitude
Should be one of gratitude,
Like the widows and cripples in old London town,
Who owe their large pensions to Wernher von Braun.

That Was the Week That Was .
And my mom bought the album ‘That was the year that was’
We played that over and over and over…
I can still hear the punchline of one song ‘when Alabama gets the bomb!’ But all the songs were awesome

Absolutely developed my political satire from this man!

Unfortunately, the stuff from The Electric Company is owned by the show. Oh, well. I still have it on CD.

I got about 1/3 of them so far.

but a lot of his songs have aged very well, like singing the periodic table. That one won't have to be updated much until they find out how to make the heaviest lab created atoms stable in the present universe. They'll be added in a few tens of billions of years, but until then, the song will remain unchanged.

One of my faves will always be "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," something shared by anyone who's ever tried to exercise on a bike path that goes under a bridge that absolutely rains pigeon poop. I've never poisoned a pigeon, in a park or elsewhere, but I've certainly thought about it. Often.

I grew up listening to That Was the Year That Was. Later in life I got the rest of his playlist.

He's a treasure.
