(8,595 posts)Hardly fair to call it a virus at all, it sucks at spreading.

(7,794 posts)screaming maniacally to the world how defensive of Christianity's hegemony they are, proudly parade their intolerance and mindless hatred of just about every progressive thing.
It's worth noting in this Christmas season just how the aspects of Christ the ideal, compassionate and wise are often absent from the daily thoughts of American Christians. Apparently, the lions are still winning.

(60,436 posts)I came down with that very early on, and haven't even shown any signs of remission.
I've just learned to live with it. After 70 years, I don't even remember a time when I didn't have it.

She said it was the worst case she'd ever seen and it's probably hereditary.

(6,017 posts)"Woke" is a term that originated in Black American vernacular. It refers to not getting so comfortable that you forget you are still a target of oppression.
By boosting the way Republicans are using it, we're helping them appropriate and erase a term used to fight against them.

(42,409 posts)... but my son (who is now 52) has always been more liberal and progressive than I. I think he inspires me to keep trying harder when I feel myself backsliding. He's definitely the most liberal person in our family.

(4,229 posts)The term has been co-opted by the left and by the right. For us to use it, it seems to me that to the right and the middle, were claiming membership in an exclusive enlightenment club that theyre not part of, and I think it serves to alienate voters from voting D. The right has certainly used the term to ridicule left but thats just a replacement term for progressive and for liberal and for commie, etc.
I know this is probably not a popular opinion, and I dont know how the African American community feels about others using the term and changing its meaning, but it comes across to me as spiritually arrogant.

(14,620 posts)own! I am SO glad they did...
The evil's of the Cold War, the anti-Civil Rights movement, the hidden side of the Vietnam War, the fights for Women's rights, disability civil rights...all those became clearer to understand because of that inoculation.
And now, I've done the same to my two sons. No complaints so far.
Spread that virus!
