So I'm worried about the Covid wave in China and we don't have the House to arrange for

I want to listen to Dr. Fauci tell me what it is. I want to read Seth Abramson but neither of them are available to me.

What is around the corner here for us?

Andy Slavitt probably has a good bead on it and I’ll look for his In the Bubble podcast. Thank goodness for him.

I’m not tolerating all this change super well.

90% are reportedly fully vaccinated and over 92% have had at least 1 vaccination. That'll help.

And remember to keep perspective: the high projections of possible death rates are for a population of over 1.4 BILLION people. And this being Covid, by far most deaths will be among the elderly and chronically ill, something this elderly high-risk grandmother and great-grandmother always found real comfort in -- considering the dreadful alternative.

Have a nice day. We can't carry the world after all. Covid is endemic everywhere now, and all we can do is to refuse to spread it to others.

I’m sorry for them and worried about the rest of us. I’ll try to stop worrying now and go for a walk. Sending you aloha.

He is very alarmed. He was right last time. My God those poor people. How are we going to get funding through to protect and take care of our people?

Reflecting for a moment how completely bat shit bananas it is that our own right wingers hate Dr. Fauci so much when he’s done so much for us. That’s a really hard one. God bless and protect him

I saw what was going on kn China in Feb 2020 & immediately stocked up on 3M N95s, toilet paper, & canned goods. (Long before toilet paper & masks were in high demand here.)

I still have about a year of tp left. Lol

Yeah. Qpukes are so stupid & hateful. Just beyond repulsive! And, no doubt, killed a lot of their own constituents with their antivax / anti mask bs.

I'll continue to wear my N95s at grocery store, the only place I go anymore due to covid & excessively high violent crime rate here in this red hellhole. 😓

When China first started to shutdown in early 2020, I saw a coworker who had been living in China in our cafeteria and had lunch with him. Really a gruff and grumpy older guy, he and his wife and kid had been living in China for the last couple years. He is also a Trumpster, really conservative. I was shocked when he said, "John, this is way worse than what the media or our politicians are saying, the entire world is about to get shut down from this." He then went on to say how his wife and daughter had flown out a few weeks before, and he was going to stick it out, but had to leave when he couldn't get food anymore. People get groceries delivered in Shanghai and none of the delivery places were operating, and the local markets were closed, he left on the last Delta flight out because he ran out of food in his house. He then described how at the Airport in LA, there was no screening at all, and they just held people arriving from China in a room together for an hour, asked them if they felt fine and let them go on their way.

I think this was before the first cases had been detected in the US. This coming from him shocked me. I ordered two big cases of toilet paper off Amazon before there was even a demand for it. And I started telling people in my friend group and family to get ready for the whole world to be shut down. Everyone thought I was crazy until things started happening here.

The world responded according to what was known, shutdowns saved millions of lives. Then the vaccines saved millions of lives. Today we're in a different stage of Covid, it's just here to stay, but will not be some severe outbreak that causes shutdowns again save for maybe the way the Flu can occasionally shut down a school or two in the Winter. If you're up to date on your Covid vaccines, Covid shouldn't scare you anymore than the flu does.

How awful for your coworker & all the people in China!

It's not getting sick or even dying from covid that has me still wearing N95s at grocery, it's the effects of long covid. Yikes!

is what Biden can do by executive order. The republican House will never approve one dime of funding for Covid. The will sit there and claim the vaccine is killing people, not the virus.

The twitter exodus has pushed mastodon beyond its current capacity.

I tried the link several times and it gave me the permission denied at first, then some other messages that were different. You can also try:

here

It's going to take a while for mastodon to get its servers and network feeds upgraded to handle the increased demand. Expect a lot of intermittent error messages for a while.
