EDITING to note that this is a joke from Pete Souza, who was Obama's WH photographer. Pete has a great sense of humor. (Musk has done some crazy things lately, but to the best of my knowledge he has NOT opened accounts on those sites.)

Kinda cool. Took a bit becasue you have to choose a home 'server' re group.

You can join a more theme/topic oriented server that requires a manual review, hence some time; or choose a General server that you can join immediately.

You will just need a valid email and have to agree to the rules of the group. There are several General Servers to choose from, make sure you check them all out as some are more strict then others. (I splurged and setup a mstdn.party account and a more serious 'universodon' account, using different email accounts - both legit lol.)

That's about all I know as I have not used it at all yet - will be learning the ropes over the next few days.

The General ones are open to all.

I did not try to join a private server so did not see the logic path to join and rules etc.

So that question is still open, sorry.

8. Gotta remember Maastodon IS NOT Twitter. Looks like it but under the hood a total different concept.

It's Open Source so a programmer could hypothetically set up a server that would require one to enter a screenshot of an ID or verification video or something.

It is going to take a different mind set. Another example is each server has it's own rules re things such as adult content - some allow it to a greater extent then others which do not allow it at all.

That's why I set up 2 accounts. And I see myself setting up at least one more for professional reasons and concepts. This is a cool feature. And you can move your accounts to other servers after you set them up if you find a better suited host.
