$131 increase in my monthly payment and a $119 a month increase for my wife . I'm expecting my VA pension to go up by about $10.
Hoping that others here whose main source of income is SS will also see a good increase.

(10,333 posts)I thought they have the same inflation adjustments?
And my mom's Social Security and Aid and Attendance (from VA) are both going up by a bit over $100/mo or so, and in conjunction with me putting her on a better Medicare Advantage plan that has $0 monthly premiums, she should be seeing around $350-$400/mo extra. That is a HUGE help.

(5,482 posts)and Im expecting a 10% raise on that, which should be around $30.

(13,849 posts)That would be very sad.
SNAP benefits are based on income, and beneficiaries must claim any increase.
Did anyone think about this aspect?

(16,385 posts)Every year I get the SS cost of living increase and so far my food stamp benefit hasnt suffered. It could be different this year as the increase is much larger than usual.

(21,497 posts)From the online letter I received:
Your 2023 Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment
Your Social Security benefit will increase by 8.7% in 2023 because of a rise in the cost of living. You can use this letter as proof of your benefit amount if you need to apply for food, rent, or energy assistance. You can also use it to apply for bank loans or for other business. Keep this letter with your important financial records.

(12,654 posts)I took large distributions from my IRA to help my daughter buy a house. So my income was inflated resulting in 85% of my Social Security being taxable, my Medicare contribution tripling, and hitting a higher tax bracket. Now thats all in the past and with the SS COLA, my monthly payment is several hundred dollars more!
