In the meantime ...

While I am loathe to find joy in the suffering of others, when it comes to Donald Trump, I am happy to make an exception.

I know we here are hoping for indictments, for convictions, for prison doors being slammed shut, But we should not lose sight of the fact that Donald's real punishment has already begun - and in his mind, it is already worse than being locked in a cell.

He is alone - and terrified of what is to come. His loyal base is looking at DeSantis as their "new and improved" saviour, His big donors are skeptical about his viability as a 2024 candidate. His enablers are weighing whether to cooperate with those who want to put him in prison, or face prison time themselves. His biggest supporter, Ivanka, has made it clear that even she has had enough.

Donald has realized that the media that used to hang on his every word has moved on, rendering him increasingly irrelevant.

He has watched as the man he tried to intimidate, Zelsnskyy, is lauded as a hero. He has watched as judges he appointed have rendered decisions against him. He has watched as his NFT "trading cards" have become an international laugh-fest.

Donald J. Trump is a man who would rather spend the rest of his life in prison while being lauded by sycophants as a political martyr than live his life at Mara Lago as the butt of every humiliating joke the world over.

Trump's punishment has already begun - and I, for one, am savouring every minute of it.

It's the old-fashioned notion of "shunning" as a punishment. Nothing could be more painful to a malignant narcissist than being shunned by the majority of society. I'm not sure I agree with you that Ivanka has had enough. Yes, she's distancing herself from him but she's still married to someone just as crooked as her father and they were both complicit in his crimes. She's just laying low and distancing herself so they can keep a low profile.

I'm right there with you in savoring all of it.

He needs to face actual penalties for once in his bloated tick life. Don't really care if he goes to jail, just needs to be convicted of a charge that prevents him from running again. The documents theft charges or the insurrection charge will both accomplish this purpose, but he needs to be convicted!

Not that I am not looking forward to the Jack Smith brand of icing on the cake, but I suspect what you (and we all) are feeling is not really joy for Trump suffering but the relief and comfort in knowing that justice is being done.

When I imagine what Trump’s idea of hell might be, it appears to me as what he is going through right now.

is the loss of his "TEFLON" and his planning to make sure the he always remained 'untouchable.'

He has FINALLY been LOSING things besides elections: court rulings on top of court rulings, and no Attorney General to cover up his nefarious actions. And to make those loses even worse, some of the courtroom losses are at the hands of judges he appointed!

The fall can't be steep enough and fast enough!

He spent his lifetime cheating and working the system to avoid losing and the only thing he "succeeded" at was showcasing his inability to be anything but a loser. He lost two national popular elections personally, and he lost two more elections for his chosen party.

Will we all accept conviction with no jail time? My own thinking has always been that as long as he can never run for federal office again, that would be an acceptable outcome. If he has to do some time, it would be symbolic not really punitive. Right now the DOJ the Rule of Law and our country need a big win (so to speak) . Which, of course, sends a huge message to the rest of the nutbars out there.

I very much enjoyed this post. Thank you Nance. I relish the idea that this time has been uncomfortable in the extreme for the former guy but I never cared enough to get bent if he does not spend a day in Jail. If the rest of the country considers this enough, i won't swim against the current. (like it would matter what any one individual thinks)

For me, rather he does a little time or not is a, meh.
