Roger Stone Took the Fifth When Asked How Old He Was

The House committee investigating the Capitol riot and former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the election must have known they were going to get a lot of Republican witnesses refusing to answer questions.

But perhaps they didn’t know just how serious they were about invoking their Fifth Amendment right not to self-incriminate.

In a batch of dozens of transcripts published by the committee on Wednesday, high-profile right-wingers involved in the events of Jan. 6 refused to answer hard-hitting questions such as “Where do you live,” “Do you have a Twitter handle,” and, on multiple occasions, whether the witness understood what the Fifth Amendment actually means.

And ahead of the release of the committee’s full report Thursday, the transcripts show a substantial lack of cooperation from many of the key players allegedly involved in the events that led up to the Capitol riot.

During his deposition on Dec. 17, 2021, Longtime Trump confidante Roger Stone used his right to not self-incriminate by refusing to answer questions about his biography easily found on the internet.

3. I'm in favor of them being held in contempt of Congress...

"Contempt of Congress is when an individual intentionally interferes with Congressional action. Congress has the power to restrain such individuals from interfering with its actions. It is a form of contempt, similar to contempt of court.

Congress’s ability to hold individuals in contempt who interfere with its duties is considered an implied power of the legislature. The U.S. Supreme Court summarized this principle in the 1917 case Marshall v. Gordon, stating, “in virtue of the grant of legislative authority, there would be a power implied to deal with contempt insofar as that authority was necessary to preserve and carry out the legislative authority given.” That is, although the Federal Constitution does not explicitly provide for Congressional power to hold individuals in contempt, such power is considered implied because without it, Congress could not effectively carry out its duties."

"Each count of contempt of Congress carries a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in jail, as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000."

7. I'm a Roger Stone birther. I think he was born in Germany and was a Hitler Youth leader.

If he stands on his head, his Nixon tattoo looks like Hitler's ass. Coincidence?

Only reason I can think of that he would take the Fifth on this.

He has also never released his birth certificate to the public.

what questions you answer. Asking age is a trap question often asked of those taking the fifth to trap them into involuntarily waiving their rights.

Answering one question not directly pertaining to the issue under investigation waive 5th amendment rights entirely?
I never heard that before.

Why was the question of age asked if not directly pertaining to the issue under investigation? They are not there for social niceties.

You're probably right. He was probably advised to just plead 5 to everything.

This is evidence that Trump did not expand the pardon he gave Stone to include January 6. Just as the fact that Ivanka and Jared testified indicates that Jared had been pardoned, and thus couldn't take the 5th. I do hope that Stone is prosecuted and incarcerated.
