Senate GOP rebukes Trump with Electoral Count Act

Eighteen Senate Republicans rebuked former President Trump this week by voting to clarify that the vice president does not have the power to overturn a presidential election as Trump pressured then-Vice President Mike Pence to do on Jan. 6, 2021.

And several other Republicans, who didn’t vote for the spending package, which included the electoral count reforms, such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), previously expressed support for changes to the law to make it tougher to object to the Electoral College’s vote.

GOP senators ignored Trump’s argument posted on Truth Social, his social media platform, that the 1887 Electoral Count Act should be left the way it is “in case of Fraud.”

Republican senators across the political spectrum said they want to slam the door on the notation that Pence had the authority to throw out a state’s slate of electors, which could open the door for future vice presidents to attempt to interfere with the Electoral College’s vote.

Declare that the penalty for submitting a Certificate of Ascertainment that has (1) not been signed by both the Governor and Secretary of State and/or (2) declares that a candidate who did not receive the most votes in that state as reported by at least three news organizations holding White House press credentials, one of which must be either the Associated Press, ABC News, CBS News or NBC News, is the winner of the presidential election in that state is the same number of years in federal prison as the age of the United States for all involved with the false certificate. SO...if Biden takes NC in 2024 and the Republican electors in that state submit a false certificate of ascertainment anyway, the Republican electors are going to Leavenworth for 248 years.

Further, if a governor of a state signs a Certificate of Ascertainment declaring a candidate to be the winner of the state's electoral votes who did not win the popular vote, that state's electoral votes will be nullified and the number required to win will be reduced by the number of votes that state represents. So...if Biden carries Texas in 2024 and Governor Abbott awards Texas' 38 electoral votes to DeSantis for reasons, not only do the governor, the Secretary of State and 38 Republican electors all get 248 years in federal prison, only 238 electoral votes will be required to win the presidency. I assure you this "we're going to declare the Republican won the election whether you like it or not" shit would stop instantly.
