Try rural western North Carolina. Many work, or at least did work, in the construction industry down there, plus various services. Lots of retirement homes, second homes, etc. in the area. Michael Jordan owns or did own a house in one of the wealthy, gated communities over in Avery County.

When we lived down there years ago, a local friend of mine hooked me up with some recent immigrants who ran a land clearing business with family and friends. Did fantastic work for us, paid them a fair wage + lunch for a couple of days. they were the only ones I could find to take the work, thus the referral. Seems some have become permanent residents, their kids filling out the local high school soccer teams. I'm sure it hasn't been easy for them in unwashed, Trumpmurka, but they're making a go of it.

and not just from the cold. If migrants were bussed to my state, Minnesota, they would be immediately taken in and given food, shelter, help and kindness by many agencies, organizations and churches, as was done at Martha's Vineyard in MA last summer. The more this performative assholery occurs, the worse the GOP looks.

Of course the MAGAts love to see these poor folks shuttled around like cattle because to them, immigrants (at least the non-white ones) aren't actually people, just parasites who don't deserve to be Americans, so they should be treated like some invasive species of animal. But the rest of us remember that there was once, not all that long ago, another government that shipped people off in cattle cars...
