Making a very big deal out of Liz, Cheneys unprecedented role as vice chairman of the committee.
Im sorry, but what is the blazes is the matter with these people? The point of the thrust of the committee was, and these people stated and admit this, that it was nearly all Republicans who were used as witnesses for the prosecution. And so thus, in keeping with this strategy, it was vitally imperative that a Republican be utilized as the chief prosecutor from a logistical standpoint.
There is no question that Adam Schiff or Jamie Raskin couldve done an excellent job presenting the case, but the fact that it was a conservative Republican with familial political Pedigree made the case more effective in presenting it to that huge nether world of middle of the road group. I hold no briefs for this woman or her father, but the one thing that we know about them is they aint Russian sympathizers and they arent PETTY thieves. (Yes, I know what youre thinking
.)
But back to the program: the last person Im going to listen to in terms of political predictions, is Jonathan Lemire. He redundantly persistently repeats, and repeats, and repeats, political clichés, and thus his self-aggrandizing political prophecies, which were utterly wrong,( in fact, you could make a lot of money betting against him), are incredibly annoying. I have posted in the past that he prefaced every sentence beginning with the day of inauguration of President Biden, with the phrase historically, the party in power loses a great number of seats at the midterm elections , and so with that is a given
and then some bullshit prediction of what was going to happen involving Bidens likely failures, which was proven entirely wrong time and again. You would think he would learn. But he wrote a book which he and the entirety of the MSNBC crowd promoted like it was a lost volume of Marcel Proust.
I have been watching political programs nonstop since the 1980s, and as primitive and as badly produced as they were in those days, we have to ad not that it was a much higher level of broadcasting. Whereas now the panelist has become the celebrity and the guest is an afterthought and in many cases interchangeable . If you ever watch old TV interviews, the journalist, who really were journalists, in those days, would ask succinct questions with a finite number of words in the sentence ending with a question mark. Now, we get to listen to a dissertation and rehash by the questioner, who apparently feels it is necessary to rehash the entire history of the subject upon which he or she is going to ask the question. It is beyond annoying and I think that if you distill all the verbiage from say a half hour down to substantive Wording you would have maybe 2 1/2 minutes of action. There were some statistic years ago about how much time in a 60 minute football game the action is actually taking place and I dont recall the number but it was laughable. (That of course is not to minimize the trauma that these players endure for that relatively short period of action, its just that if you watch basketball and hockey, the play is virtually continuous while the clock is ticking).
But back to my subject: the story about Liz Cheney is specious: it was a given in the beginning and probably a part of the deal she made to serve on the committee and thus relinquish her House seat. She has other irons in the very hot fire and we should be concerned about her rise as an effective very conservative candidate for high office but for now, we should take a victory and appreciate the result despite the obvious flaws of the Sheriff who brought the bad guy in.
Now we have to win the trials
.we can look forward to the Lemire-types stating over and over and over that the defendants are presumed innocent and even if found guilty that the case will be under appeal.
Its never ending. The motto of the networks should be: today, as every day, were running a special on bullshit.

(11,866 posts)The never Trumpers view Cheney as the hope for resurrecting the GOP. she is running for President and using the committees to do it.
Put money on it.

(102,276 posts)and, yes, sacrifice, into a future with whatever "newly emergent" form of the R party emerges.
That said, I won't discount her effectiveness and I do think they are right when they underscore her role in getting some of these witnesses to come and candidly provide their very harmful testimony. Among these, Cassidy Hutchinson.
I don't have to let go of my wariness toward who she has been and will be again, politically in the future to give her that credit.
That said, the heroes of these hearings are every single member of the committee and the Chairman, as well as Nancy Pelosi, who put it all together. There were superstars, among them attorneys Schiff and Raskin, but I credit each and every one of the members with very effective presentations and contributions.
But, yes, Cheney and Kinzinger provided invaluable assistance. And though I should not HAVE to say this countless times, that does not change my views nor support for them in the future.

(4,999 posts)I'm not making a bet, but I'll bet that Cassidy Hutchinson's path has been significantly bent from the previous trajectory she was on. Maybe she gets out of politics, maybe she turns left.

(17,984 posts) Despite low ratings, Biden has done this or that! I quit watching his smirking face, was watching Berman and Brianna. I liked them. All of a sudden Don Lemon and 2 women were sitting around giggling about nothing. I have yet to see Brianna, except as a fill in. Now, I just turn them off.
Scarborough going on about how awful Trump is when he and Mika let their dear friend, Donald call in every morning while other stations cut him off. Sanctimonious Joe and Mika make me sick. He was one of those in the front row, going to interview Monica. Imus was bad, Joe is worse.

Cheney lets them slide in return for 2024 support? Thats been my thought since she first said Trump is the target.
I want all of these traitors (Jordan, Gohmert, Johnson, etc)

(32,704 posts)Those type of statements really piss me off when they make them. It's like they preemptively dictate and offer a permission slip for the bad behavior of repugs. For example, the permission slip they gave to repugs to ignore subpoenas and/or not testify before the J6 committee. If the media were doing their jobs properly, the idea of those seditious thugs blowing off such a serious investigation with no consequences would be unheard of. They'd be forced to resign in shame! It shouldn't be framed as will they comply or they probably won't comply, it should be a constant drumbeat on what their noncompliance says about their guilt, patriotism and fitness for office, and if criminal charges should be in play. It's not rocket science when you actually give a shit.
Regarding Cheney, I noticed the over enthusiastic praise from from day 1. There are still too many in the media, including some old school Democrats, who truly feel that our activities are not legitimate unless at least one republican is on board, and then that one republican voice becomes the most important voice.
As far as lemire, he could be one of those types that pisses me off... But I don't watch his 5a show and for some reason I honestly don't remember anything he says on Morning Joe, so I'm guessing it's all about fence riding or saying a lot of nothing. I don't recall getting pissed off with him but it could be that I get so angry that the entire exchange is blocked out of my mind. Lol. I'll pay more attention next time.
