We were exposed to COVID from the trump lovers who recited the pledge at Christmas lunch. My stroke patient husband has symptoms. Could use the positive vibes.

(12,533 posts)Made me sick enough that I also tested for Covid twice and came up negative. Had the wretched sore throat, sinus congestion and drain, continuous cough, sweats and chills, body aches and fatigue. I'm into week three and the cough is finally abating where I can sleep through the night. I almost feel human.
I caught this from my husband who picked it up from the grand baby (she was in hospital for a week) or from his various medical facility trips for endless testing.
Whatever. It's nasty.
Hope your husband has a milder infection. Lots of bed rest, fluids and whatever you can find to reduce the congestion will help.
Sending good vibes!

(4,746 posts)It hits everyone differently. Three over 65ers here. Two had a very sore throat for the first three days and then general malaise. No crazy fevers or coughing. Those two took Paxloved and recovered quickly but did have a very uncomfortable rebound about day nine. I only had a terrible headache. The same one I got with every vaccine/booster. No coughs or fever just a sinus headache of sorts. Broke down and took Advil / Tylenol alternately as prescribed by the doc.
The sore throat seemed to be helped by drinking a tea made from boiling water, lemon juice and honey several times a day. Also salt water gargle.
I think your vaccines will carry you both through this. It is scary as hell when it comes home with us. Think positively and remember to breathe! Sending love and healing light to you and yours. 💗💗🙏💐

(8,561 posts)Not telling you anything you don't know, but especially with his stroke history it's nothing to take lightly.
I just don't understand why everyone has let their guard down, endangering themselves and everyone they come in contact with. (Not talking about you; I understand not masking at family gatherings. I'm talking about folks regularly going into crowds without masks, going to big events, etc.)

(114,615 posts)the illness should be a nuisance and inconvenience and nothing worse.
I'd be tempted to thank the cultists for the infection from their slacker patriotism, but it wouldn't do any good. Stupid and self centered people never learn. Just be grateful it wasn't a long winded grace while everything got stone cold.
As an aside, Covid is now with us forever, but for the fully vaxxed, it shouldn't be the horror show it was before the vaccine came out.
Unvaccinated TFG cultists are on their own. I had the original strain in March 2020, so I know how sick they're going to be. I don't feel a bit sorry for them, they did that to themselves.

(38,638 posts)COVID caused pancreatitis for me, which is a life-threatening condition. It was, fortunately, a mild case - at 3 days hospitalization.
I'm one of the lucky folks with long COVID - at 6 months most of my symptoms have resolved.
I was fully vaxxed and was boosted 2-3 weeks before contracting COVID.
It is dangerous to assume that if the active disease doesn't kill you, it is nothing more than a nuisance. According to the most recent CDC data, 34.1-36% of people who have ever had COVID developed long COVID. 17.9-19.8% of those who experienced long COVID at any time are still experiencing it. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/covid19/pulse/long-covid.htm

(38,638 posts)The really acute stuff was about 2 weeks, with occasional moderate pain beyond that for a couple of months. By now, I'm down to about one day a week of my gut being really unhappy.
Stay safe - and if you do end up with COVID, don't assume it is over once the symptoms pass.

(132,440 posts)vaccine Oct 2020, the other after fully vaxxed and boosted several months ago) was telling me that latest research suggests that long covid is an autoimmune condition. I just looked at some of the reports. Very worrisome, to say the least.
Ms. Toad
(38,638 posts)COVID impacts so many body systems that each is likely to have its own (or perhaps more than one) form of long COVID. It will likely be decades before we sort this out - and once we discover the full impact it will be too late to help all of the folks who might have prevented infection with a little precaution, had they taken it seriously.
Mine was primarily GI (pancreatitis and some form of slow emptying of the bile from the gall bladder, as well as bouts of severe cramps and intense diarrhea). But in looking for what caused the pancreatitis, they tested for immune deficiencies related to autoimmune pancreatitis. I didn't have that particular deficiency, but I had others. Since I don't currently have symptoms I've only had a generalized follow-up test - which looks normal. (The general test is a sum of the individual tests - so a high could cancel out a low and look normal. They won't repeat the individual tests unless I have symptoms, since they are expensive and usually only done to track down causes of unexplained symptoms like pancreatitis or frequent and severe respiratory infections.)

(10,988 posts)What they are seeing is exhausted T cells like a person with cancer or AIDS might have. Also disordered B cells. Long Covid people can still sign up to join study.

It will make a big diff to the outcome & youve got a window of opportunity
My sis who had an early case of COVID sent me a bunch of advice a week and a half ago when it looked like I might have it (I dont; looks more like RSV & Im still hacking & taking 2 to 3 hour naps in the afternoon) . She says dont listen to people saying youll get a rebound, because COVID itself has a rebound.
Im so sorry.
Prayers and love

(31,759 posts)TIME is of the essence so start the journey now. Go and get a PCR covid test right away. You MUST SPECIFY that you want a PCR test, otherwise you are likely to be given an antigen POC test which gets your results quicker but is less accurate and more likely to give you a false negative early in the infection.
Prayers are nice, but it's time to get to work.

Get a proper test and get on pavloxid asap. I hope it is not covid and nothing serious.
We still do not go anywhere pretty much, I mask everywhere. I have turned down social things that are not outdoors, I will not be indoors with anybody unmasked for any reason. I wont knowingly be around unvaccinated people at all in even outdoor social settings. That is the only way you can be almost 100% safe. Even then if youre going to a doctors office and there are other people unmasked people there is still a slight chance but not very high probably. I am not taking any chances to get it again.

(2,809 posts)Commiserating comrade also down with this damn thing. Flu, by symptoms, it was a couple scary nights trying to expectorate stubborn mucus:
I was one of the early COVID cases, so was a particular patient's nurse, it was before the count began in the U.S.. Although this is nothing as painful as that was, my asthma has been exacerbated ever since.
My usually crazy-playful fur buddy Tiago has been perceptive and extra snuggly to his "pack leader".
Hang in there. Best hopes that this too shall pass.
