(16,409 posts)He fired the usher under the Obamas and hired Harleth. I would not trust anyone who trump hired. Not for one second.

(54,405 posts)The incoming presidents counsel called the White House counsel on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the process, and said the Bidens planned to bring in their own person. Mr. Harleths departure was first reported by CNN.

(81,248 posts)The smash mouth style as a New York City real estate mobster didn't work as well in DC.
Of course Trump has gotten away with so many crimes, maybe it didn't matter.

(82,849 posts)The etiquette mavens of the establishment media never scolded the former guy for trashing the place and that it wasn't his place to trash. It's curious how standards changed from the Clintons to the Trumps, innit?

Trump's sin is that he hurt the GOP brand.
That they couldn't abide.

(7,349 posts)...I would have just ducked out of site and act like I was packing up. And as soon as Biden arrived, open the door and once inside inform him I was a volunteer doing this as I was just fired a few hours ago. That may have engendered Biden to keep him on, plus it would piss Trump off.
But if he was a Trump loyalist, yeah, I can see how he got the hell out of Dodge.

It is common knowledge that the outgoing White House administration and staff works with the incoming White House administration and staff to make the transition as easy as possible, in what is expected and supposed to be a political-free process. Trump wanted his administration and staff to blatantly ignore this tradition, especially the employees that he had ties to prior to serving as President.
In Grisham's interview, upon learning about Harleth's actions Trump, along with then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, wanted to fire Harleth immediately, no questions asked. According to Grisham, former first lady Melania Trump intervened and demanded her husband not to fire Harleth. Melania had personal interest in the situation, as she had appointed Harleth to the position upon entering the White House in 2017.
According to the New York Times, Harleth was fired three weeks later on Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
The lack of a Chief Usher meant that when the Bidens arrived to the White House for the first time there was no designated personnel to have the White House doors open, so they arrived to closed set of doors.
