First, I want to start by thanking all of you for helping me. Truly, I am very grateful for all your help.
How did I get here? I have lipedema which went undiagnosed for years then in 2012 I developed a rare lung disease which requited me to be on oxygen for awhile. Oxygen dropping and being out of breath made it hard for me to be mobile. Lipedema plus lung disease brought on obesity. I started this journey about 2 years ago at my highest weight of 357 pounds. Insurance required me to lose some weight on my own in order to be approved for surgery. I was about 300 pounds day of surgery and weigh 228 pounds today. So I have lost 129 pounds so far but now I am at a stall. It's getting really difficult to lose more since lipedema fat does not fully go away with just weight loss. Getting rid of lipedema requires surgery and it is very difficult to get that covered by insurance but I am doing it. Medicare requires a lot of loop jumping and checking off to do lists in order to get it covered. It will take awhile but I am doing it. I'm on a 800 calorie a day anti inflammatory diet. It's very strict and very hard trying to get at least 60 grams of protein in per day. My husband took are of me and now I have to get healthy so I can take care of myself. I don't really have anyone I can burden with taking care of me nor do I want to.
Let's see if I can post an image.. I'm having trouble with images so I hope this works.
P.S. My gay autistic son has not seen nor spoke with his homophobic father in 6 months. He's doing well in counselling and taking medication for his depression.

I hope the problem with the lipedema can be some how dealt with. I don't know anything much about it. I was confusing it with lymphedema which is a whole different thing.
I know what you mean about having to stay away from certain people. I've had to dump two of them OUT OF MY LIFE in the past two weeks. They were unhealthy relationships and we don't need those when we are struggling so hard ourselves!
Take care and have a Happy New Year 2023!

(1,609 posts)Yes. Sometimes writing off toxic people is the only healthy option.

(22,147 posts)I had a horrible year myself.
It cannot be over with fast enough!
Between losing my
husband of 37 years in May
and getting rid of two other individuals I know recently has been an absolute drain on me.
Shedding toxic people is like shedding pounds! One they are gone you certainly do not want them back!
Take care BlueLucy!

(1,609 posts)Sounds like you had a similar 2022. I lost my husband in Jan 2022. It's so hard. Sending you love!

(10,697 posts)You do not look like you still weigh 227-8, but keep going! It will really be worth it health-wise in the long run, and as a bonus, you will be able to buy cuter clothes and they will fit better.
But bottom line is the health benefits. Good luck to you.

(1,609 posts)I'm feeling a lot better. Still having trouble with mobility but no where near what it use to be. I really need to build up my endurance. I'm trying to get to the YMCA at least twice a week.

(16,251 posts)You have come too far to.
The one thing I found helpful in my treatments for the past 2 years is a huge white board and colorful markers.
Write your lists of goals, perhaps your weekly meal planning on it, Dr's appt and meds. As you accomplish things you can erase them and replace with a new one.

(27,446 posts)You must have major inner strength to get through this successfully. I've known several people who did the bariatric surgery then failed with the follow up.
Best of luck to you next year!
