OK, so this is a new term for me, but it seems to harken back to the "recruiting" rhetoric that folks my age tend to associate with the likes of Anita Bryant.
And now I'm seeing it here associated with broad brush attacks on my wife's religion, out of ignorance, which I find personally threatening.
Let's not encourage violence with such rhetoric.
So I ask.
Is it time to stop validating the violence-provoking "grooming" rhetoric?

Calling people "illegals" feeds a hate machine, by exploiting racial fears and economic anxiety. The I-word, along with other words tainted by hate, provides an easy scapegoat for complex issues and OKs violence against those labeled with it. Don't feed the hate machine. Drop the I-word.

(66,184 posts)Besides, the "I" word wasn't something used as a pejorative here at DU.
So you're comparing apples to airplanes.

but being told, for example, I have to respect religion.....um, no..... I call it as I see it and I think religion causes far more harm than good
I *TOLERATE* religion as long as they keep it to themselves but when they start using that nonsense to shape our laws, FUCK THAT

(7,607 posts)then christian nationalism is a culture and we should respect it? Q is a culture, MAGA is a culture,, I could keep going. I don't have to respect something just because someone calls it a culture. That smacks too much of this.
And I don't play that game.

and you cannot make people respect that which they find silly at best, and harmful at worst. You may as well advise us to respect the beliefs of MAGAts - that's their culture, isn't it? I see you haven't told us if you respect the Taliban....imagine that.
DONE here; over and OUT.

(1,972 posts)Oh, never mind.
If you can't respect other cultures, then there is no point in conversing with you at all.
Putting you on ignore is the better option.

(100,425 posts)It's not Ron DeSantis! He was just installed by Fox News to do their every evil bidding. Ron DeSantis isn't the problem. He's just a symptom. Fox News is the real problem. Current conservative buzzwords like "woke" and "groomers" and "critical race theory" weren't a thing until Fox News decided they were. Ron DeSantis is just an ass kissing yes man. Fox News is the real problem facing our society. They're clearly pulling Ron's strings. Same with Abbott in Texas, he was installed by Fox as well.

(67,112 posts)governorship election. Then Fox and the media. He loves his woke, groomers, critical race theory, trans, picking on teachers and on and on ... and then Fox broadcasts it over and over. And others like OAN pick it up, etc. etc. I wish Americans would learn a bit of critical thinking and trying to understand just WTF is going on in the US. DeSantis takes his orders well from Fox and the like and the billionaire class, etc.

(28,376 posts)that might have something to do with it. I frequently skip reading topics that center around religious things.
But aside from that . . . . are you concerned someone on DU is inciting violence? Can't say I've seen anything like that at all. Not even close.

(154,030 posts)I'm not getting it either....there's a huge difference between finding what others believe silly and inciting VIOLENCE against them because of their beliefs..........
