EDIT to add:
AOC apparently talked to leaders in her party and confirmed that never happened.
Likely also why she was talking to Gosar.

(54,957 posts)We have one vacancy left by the death of Rep. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) shortly after his reelection.

(5,938 posts)She may have stepped out for a few minutes, but she definitely voted for Jeffries all 3 times.

(312 posts)It would infuriate them and make sledding a little easier for these two years. Jeffries is not going to be elected Speaker.

(4,360 posts)the MAGAt agenda she voted for her whole time in Congress? She is not our friend and it would be disastrous for Dems to align with her. If the Rs want a compromise then they vote for Jeffers. No reason at all for us to give any ground.
Sort of the 'when your enemy is digging a hole let him keep digging'.
News Junkie
(312 posts)Jeffries can't win. No Republican will vote for him. We can delight in the civil war, but eventually there will be a Republican elected and it may be someone like Scalise. Why not leverage it into a maybe Kasich-type?
When the enemy is down, kick him don't console or make nice with him. Sure Jeffers can't win, but they don't have anyone who can so let them fester.

(312 posts)I'm enjoying their shit show as much as anyone. But this story will be over in a couple of news cycles. I'd rather leverage long term gain. The infrastructure bill, the CHIPS Act, the Gay Marriage bill, all with bi-partisan support. That's easier to get with certain Republicans in leadership.

(4,360 posts)Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing! These aren't nice people. It's not up to us to elect a speaker and we certainly shouldn't compromise our values to elect one. Any Dem votes for an R speaker is giving up on our values.

(22,984 posts)There are probably GOP members of the House the Democrats could strike a deal with, though. I agree on that premise, to be sure.
