I heard a proposal that they might put Fred Upton up for a vote

He's a conservative, but they might be able to get a few Democratic votes. It's true that he's leaving, but you don't have to be a member to be Speaker.

Whenever McCarthy throws in the towel, it doesn’t seem like Scalise would face much resistance. These guys just want McCarthy’s scalp.

If all reasonable reTHUGS don't make the cut, the whiner in chief will ask for a chance and might get it.

Better to put in someone that gives US DEMS some power and concessions than to have a freak show with the orange man in our face until he's dragged off to prison.

I don't see them playing games like that unless this circus drags on in public for weeks and the Dems can play it like they're swooping in to fix things.

the Dems need to hold their votes until at least 10 repukes vote for the compromise. And they need to get concessions in writing for voting as a block for a repuke compromise.
