What if-and can-Dems vote to elect McCarthy?

Democrats have voted to select their leader unanimously. The GOP can’t get their job done.

What if a few Dems now voted to support McCarthy? We don’t need a unanimous vote for Hakeem Jeffries to become the Democratic House leader. The statement of unity has already been made.

What if a few Dems peeled off to vote for McCarthy?

I confess I don’t know if this can happen. But I love the implications!

The crockpot wing of the Republicans who are waging war against McCarthy would be thwarted and livid. They, and the rest of the Republicans, would forever worry that he’s beholden to us. And in fact he would be, at least a little. He’d never live it down. We’d be able to mock him at every turn.

At the least it would be hilarious. Properly messaged it would be a millstone around his neck and that whole cabal.

The election is based on a percentage of those voting. If the Democrats only declared "present" and did not vote, then the percentage would easily be in McCarthy's favor.

she said alot but crux is
1- mccarthy wld need to approach Dems to ask for their votes, IF he wants to take this route that is
2- Dems could/would ask for concessions such as power sharing of the House or some committee chairs

Very well spoken young lady & leader in the making, def'ly a fearless disruptor. I do hope she does intend to go to law school.

There's alot of risks at stake. BUT if Dems are able to broker a tightnit deal that he cannot reneg on it may be worth it. This is a terrible situation & utter embarassment to mccarthy & uttrr failure on the GOP. Then again they have no shame or integrity so...

If Republicans can't get their act together on their own, the last thing Democrats should do is bail out McCarthy.

We should push for a moderate Republican compromise candidate (someone retired, not currently a House member), and for concessions like equal representation on committees, and that any impeachments or investigations require Democratic approval.

This is serious business and we need serious people to take care of that business. McCarthy is not serious and he's a loser and a liar.

Besides, voting for him just to "mess" with the GOP is behavior one expects from Boebert, MTG, Jordan and their ilk. It isn't a serious plan and those are not serious people, either.

The Democrats are doing the right thing in letting the Republicans self-immolate. When your enemy is making a mistake, don't help them out.

Let America see why they shouldn't vote for Republicans.

Both in terms of his politics and actions. He placated the election deniers and lied every step of the way to avoid this moment. I can't see him being a consensus choice using Democratic support.
