Republicans Have Set Themselves Up To Be Run By Racist Traitors
For the longest time, Republicans enjoyed an abundance of built in advantages. They had big business backing with unlimited dollars of support. They had a right wing media ecosystem that both kept the base energized with racist dog whistles and an alternate reality where sloppy emails practices where seen as worse them stoking an armed insurrection. They also benefitted from foreign interference that was happily willing to amplify their racist and divisive rhetoric and their efforts to undermine Democracy. They also built a corporate church coalition that was ready to sell their soul to appoint theocratic judges that were ready to erode the separation of church and state.
Indeed, with such an insular ecosystem of support, Republicans have groomed themselves to field extreme candidates who knew that they could win primaries by simply trying out crazy and out racist the field whether it was building a wall, keeping children in cages, applauding white vigilantes who gun down protestors, or complaining about "Jewish Space Lasers." The more crazy and out of touch you were the better you did with the GOP's Alex Jones loving base.
So, now the modern House Republican has no interest in governing. Indeed, trying to govern will get you primaried. Instead, the only "safe" way for a Republican to win a seat is to echo and expand upon the latest Tucker Carlson/Russian talking point. Thus, this will be a dark time for the country, because House Republicans do not gain politically from trying to govern. They will be happy to pass impeachment resolutions, default on the debt, and fail to pass the budget, because the Matt Gaetz, MTG's, Jim Jordan's of the world are running the Republican party and there is no political downside to them acting irresponsibly.
